flat cable: help needed!

Hi there!

I dismantled a Compaq TFT 5000 for my OHP-LCD-Projector-Project and came to this problem:

there is a flat cable of 5 inch length and 0.5 inch width with 20 lines on it that is attached to a small controller card. In order to get this controller card off of the back of my lcd I have to get this flat cable to a length of at least 10-15 inch.

Does anybody have an idea how I could lengthen this damn flat cable, or where to get a longer one?

Any hints?

Thanks!

this is a wacky idea, but if the flexcable is to be completely replaced it could be worth trying to cut it in half and make your own version? if you can expose the inside wires and tie /conductive glue them to copper phone cable and the get some wide scotch tape, you might be sorted...

actually if you're really lucky, the ends on both side, usually a plastic molex with metal conductive pin holes linked to the flex wires...might be perfect for getting lots of really small electronics wires of differenc colors and patching them into the holes... non?

i expect it's possible to purchase the molxes by themselves. you then get lots of micro wires and a pin and use the metal pich mechanism of each hole to make your own one... i think that's enough bolox from me, sorry! 🙂
