This is the correct Swedish flag

does the diyaudio swedish flag
have the correct proportion of the fields?

Looks as it is rather good, by the fields.

Colours Of the Swedish Flag

Colours of the Flag
I have found a CMYK-color representation of the colors in the Swedish flag in the book Svenska Flaggan by Jan von Konow:
Blue: 10% Yellow, 50% Magenta, 100% Cyan
Yellow: 100% Yellow, 20% Magenta

When I used that settings in Corel PhotoPaint and translated them into RGB colors it went:
Blue..: 0,127,229
Yellow: 255,204,0

Norwegian-Swedish Jack 1844-1905

When we swedes ruled norway also 1844-1905,
we had this flag, with a little "norwegian field".
We have ruled over Finland also, way back.

/halo - belongs to the ruling people in scandinavia
(he does not mention that danish king ruled big parts of sweden back in time)

EUROPE

Hi,

Elso,

Would you feel more comfortable to carry the Euro-flag?

I know I would...I have my ancestors all over Europe so I never felt Belgian anyway.

Maybe this could be made a choice in our profile too?

L'union fait la force,😉

It is a choice... go ahead and change your flag to whatever you wish (we are going to reserve the UN flag for the Mods). It is a selection under the Edit Profile in your user control panel.

I am sorry if we offended anyone when the flags got turned on... we sent a semi-intelligent spider thru the top 50 posters or so, and used whatever info was already in your profile to select a flag. By jumpstarting the process of user flag selection, the hope was to make the place a little more colorful and to emphasis the wonderful diversity on the forum.

I love the idea of posting flags under the members' names. In fact, I was going to open a thread where I suggested that all members give some indication of what nation they are from. I mean, if you listed that you lived in Paris or Tokyo, you would not have to put down France or Japan, respectively. But some indication would be nice.

I figured that most US states would be known internationally, especially the original thirteen, of which Connecticut is one. I was going to offer to add "USA" if I was mistaken on this.

Listing the flag is even better.

There are two reasons for this.

First, several nations use the dollar as their currency. However, despite the similarity of nomenclature, each nation's dollar is not equal to the others. When somebody mentions that a woofer costs $150, how can we know which currency unless the poster lists his home country?

A few years ago, the "$" sign, now almost universally printed with one vertical line, used to be written with two vertical lines through the "S". Know why? The dollar symbol stands for "US" written together. This is the first country to call the currency the dollar. First the little half-loop on the bottom dropped off, then one of the vertical lines. A case could be made, therefore, that all "dollars" mentioned on an international forum should be in terms of US dollars, unless othewise specified.

Aha! But the Webmaster is Australian. And they use the dollar as their currency as well. Therefore, the case could be made that the Australian dollar is the "default" currency when "dollar" is mentioned.

But wait! There are more moderators who are Canadian than any other nationality. Moderators have the power to delete posts. Messages might suddenly start disappearing if Canadian moderators think their national currency is not being shown due respect 😉. Therefore, you would have a better chance of your post remaining on the forum if you use the Canadian dollar as the "default" currency.

With the flags, this probem disappears. We simply assume that the poster is referring to his own nation's currency when "dollars" are mentioned, and that is that. Unless, of course. the poster specifies a currency different from his own.

The second, and far more substantial, reason I like the flags appearing is that it lends a certain sense of importance to the forum. It almost seems like we have an online symposium here, with people meeting from all different nations to add their knowledge for the purpose of advancing the audio art.

DIYAudio is very much an international forum, and I think that the flags underline that strength. Sort of an ongoing Audio Olympics.

I could not be more delighted with the new style.

Keticwizard,

You made a long speech on curreny, yet how can you explain that even if I go in person to Partsconnexion (located in my area) I have to use US dollars to make a purchase?😉

I don't blame them and I think that on a forum like this one, the most universal currrency is still US dollar. That's why, whenever I quote a price, I always do it in your currency.😉

Seriously? He requires US currency?

If I were you, Peter, I wouldn't pay for anything in advance there. It sounds like the proprietor might be making plans to abscond to Vegas. 😉

Nothing like A good SCORE!

I think it is good with them flags!

There is nothing like competition or getting high scores.
It may be Football, basket or Baseball, Hockey.

Now it is easy to see which country wins the separate threads
There is always a possible winner, in a discuss.

Now we can easily see what country gains score.
And feel Proud or Sad that we have won/lost a thread.
:xeye: :xeye:

/halo - interested in scoring 😉 😉
