I have Zu Dirty Weekends coming today. I’m going to run them with a First Watt J2. The speakers are 12 ohms. I bought the resistors with them to take them down to 8 ohms. Should I use the resistors?

if Zu are good enough, you'll have resistors for something else
with my 16R spks, I don't hear difference with none of Papamps, with or without shunt resistors
though, I'm spoiled and also have history with elephants, so take my words only as usual ZM's random rambling

Hahaha ZM you have history with elephants??
To the OP...if you bought the resistors, why not just try it both ways and see what you like best?

yup
as everybody knows, besides their affinity to Glass Stores, they're also finding great joy practicing in-Ear farts
result - my threshold for High End Sound is ridiculously low

Doesn't the J2 perform even better in the 8-16 ohm region? I think you will be fine just connecting the speaker as it is.
I thought I had read an interview with the Zu Audio and he recommends the J2 and a perfect pairing But I’m known to imagine things sometimes.
Don’t know specifically with the J2 but have tried shunt resistors on omen’s with ACA, F5 and aleph j. Bigger difference when used with ACA I think, but worth a try anyway.
I'm still on the waiting to ship list, I was told by Mid July I should be notified my ODW's are ready to go. Going to use it with my ACA 1.8 as well as my singled ended low-volts 845 SET amp. The ACA kicks the *** off my lovely 845 amp - thats the truth! However, I'm still glad I have the tube amp with all its lovely glass, custom metalwork top plate and walnut box.
Tube amps are just fun 😉
I still love rotating my modified St-70 into the system. Glowing tubes and iron. Front end is a custom card with a pair of EF86 and an ECC99. EL34s are Svetlana Winged C.

Thanks for all the responses. I have now tried it both ways. I can't tell a difference. I'll keep the resistors for different amps. I built 2 ACA's and a EL34 Amp. Those will power the DWs at some point and these resistors may come in handy.
I'm happy with the J2/DW pairing, btw.
