...Quickie is my design,...The circuit is very simple....

Thanks. It plots as 28V 2mA, Zout<2k, Vout 10Vpp or 3.5Vrms, gain near 2, THD surely <5% at clipping and few-% at normal signal levels.

2mA/channel gives >100 hours on standard 9V batts. The way I used to listen, that's a month. Some folks listen 16 hours/day and then it is only a week.

4mA total drain does NOT call for super/max batteries; basic zinc is the best buy, though alkalines may be better quality today. Amazon shows 8/$10 and that works out to a penny an hour. Compared to eating-out, movies, drinking, this is incredibly cheap fun.

A decent zinc D-cell will also last >100 hours and sells for a buck in 12-packs, another penny drain on the fun-money.

Contrasted to the cost of refillable batts and the chargers, you have to love this thing for thousands of hours to come out ahead of basic batts.

FWIW, my experience with the battery powered "Little Rat" phono preamp (SS) showed better sound with a 7 cell NiMH rechargeable than an alkaline "006P". I attribute the observation to lower internal impedance in the battery. Whether or not the same thing will happen with 3S4s I can't say.

It may make sense to use carbon/zinc "D" cells for filament power and NiMH or even SLA for B+.

My Quickie was from the first run, I use Duracell batteries from Costco, lasts a long time. The Quickie is a great sounding preamp, fun and easy to build. I have demonstrated it at Burning Amp for the last five shows. It always draws a lot of attraction and questions. In fact it was more popular than my semi famous chocolate chip cookies. The PJCCS upgrade is still available at Bottlehead.

Many thanks to Paul for a great design!!!
