On Hold...
Well the crap hit the fan, so to speak.
I lost my job on July 2nd, I was fired while I was on a workmans compensation claim for a back injury.
So it looks like my tube amp project will be on hiatus for a while.
We have decided to move to another province, where we lived 10 years ago, and get back to friends and family and what is familiar, I just hope that there is something for ME there in the way of work.
Anyway, my internet connection will be turned off at the end of this month and it will probably be a couple of weeks before I find a new ISP, I will updat thisproject as it comes together as I have managed to purchase a number of the items required for the project but can't afford to proceed.
Thanks for the help everyone offered I will be looking forward to talking with all of you again soon.

Frazzled,
Is it legal to dismiss you while you're on WC? I believe Canadian Law is tougher on such matters than US Law and US Law takes a jaundiced view of such goings on. This stinks on "dry ice". 😡 You were injured making money for the boss. Now, the b_stard lets you go.
Employment difficulties are something I'm all too familiar with. Both times there have been a Bush in the White House, I've endured a COMPLETE economic wipeout.

Re: On Hold...
That sucks. I hope I put that delicately enough🙄. I agree with Eli. I would contact a attorney. Don't get me wrong. I strongly dislike the sue happy atmosphere that has developed in the states over the last 15 years or so but your situation warrants legal action IMHO. I wish you good fortune in your move and hope you will be back on the forum soon.

Re: On Hold...
I have had a busy week and haven't had much time to look at this stuff, but I am sorry to hear about your misfortune. Best of luck to you and I hope that you get back on your feet again soon. I'll look forward to seeing your name in this news group in the near future, by then I hope to have made progress on my tube amp adventure.

Putting the astronomically priced WE300B aside, what is your favorite manufacturer of the venerable 300B.
I am considering but not yet sold on some of the following in no particular order;
Svetlana
Electro Harmonix
Valve Art
KR Audio
TJ Full Music
Sovtek
Golden Dragon (audionote)
JJ Electronics (Tesla)
KR Enterprise
Thanks for your time and input.

Best 300B without going broke
My vote is for the Electro Harmonix 300BEH, I have a pair in my 2 channel 8 Watt SET amp and find they sound great, well constructed as well. I bought them from Parts Connexion
http://www.partsconnexion.com/
in Canada.

Mike,
Any idea how actually manufactures them for EH?
TIA.
Cheers,😉

WOW and a matched pair is on sale right now for USD$109.95
That is damn cheap.

Both Sovtek and ElectroHarmonix are brand names used by US based New Sensor (J.C. Morrison, et al). Much of the product New Sensor markets comes from the Reflektor/Saratov plant. I'm guessing that the EH 300B comes from Saratov too.
A SUCKER FOR CERAMIC BASES...
Hi,
Thx, Eli.
That's where most of the NS stuff gets sourced from but...the pics of the 300Bs shown at EHs website show ceramic bases which I haven't seen on their other tubes untill now.
I quite like those ceramic bases on these powerhorses as these also help dissipate heat and hey, they look the works don't they?
Is this now a common feature you think?

Hey guys look at the chassis I just purchased for my 300B project.
Look here.
I am very excited about starting this project, I have all my tubes except the 300B's, I have the power supply transformer and the hum pots.
I am waiting for the right pair of output transformers to come along, I am hoping to find a nice vintage pair.
But I am very happy about this chassis, I think I will leave it like it is except I would like to find a nice exotic wood for end caps.
L8R😉

Nice Chassis
You could use an exotic wood or even marble to accent off the chassis. After all the metal work is complete, you may want to add a laquer coat to the copper chassis as copper will oxidize rater easily over time.

Re: Nice Chassis
Hmmmm Ya know, I was oing to coat the outside with something protective but I had forgotten about the inside, I dont want the whole thing turning green. Any thoughts?

you have the right sensitivity speakers so one of the best little amps you could try as your first project is the MULLARD 3-3 i used to build various versions of these for audiophiles and for near field studio monitoring, they have about 3.5 watt pure class A SINGLE ENDED output, and the two stages are directly coupled.
if built properlly, keeping all signal paths as short as possible,[no tag boards] you can get outstanding results. i have performed demo`s with these amps against expensive, solid state and tube units, with power outputs many times that of these little pocket rockets and blown them away in every area.

Re: Re: Nice Chassis
You could use Cramolin or DeOxit which inhibit oxidation also called contact conditioner. This will protect the copper without becoming an insulator.

Here is a link to the Mullard 3-3

Not a 300B but it is single ended.
PS - I know you were still shopping for transformers, you may want to consider Lundahl
Re: 8SL7-6SN7-6L6
I would like to try this amp. Has anyone built this?
I plan to use 6l6wxt.

Interesting Choice
You should get about 20W at 2% distortion,
http://www.dc-daylight.ltd.uk/Valve...ltra-linear-Hafler&Keroes/UL-H&K-Nov1951.html
I prefer Single Ended designs myself and would be tempted towards this design if I were to use a EL34 for 8 watts.

If you are still wanting to use a 6L6 in SE design this one may be to your liking.
