First timer, Fostex FE206 + FE208sigma + Marantz

I have had a pair of FE206e waiting for a box for the better part of an year
and had the same question.

Thats exactly my position too!


1. Room is big, open plan living/kitchen/dining, about 7m x 9m with 2.5m ceiling

2. Amp is either EL84 PP 10WPC or else an F5

3. Wife no problem


Only problem is that I am spoiled by a pair of ELS57s in good sonic and cosmetic condition.

You have none of the issues that would push Sachiko from the top (or close to) of the list.

Recently we had a pair of uFonken over to a buddies with stacked quads. Except in the bottom, Chris & i much prefered the little guys.

I've heard the ESL57s, round at my mate Steve's house. Now I've listened to them, I can't honestly say I'd shed any tears if I didn't hear another pair. Last I saw of them, they were in storage in his home office. I've heard worse (providing I was in the miniscule sweet-spot). But I've heard far better too; both from electrostatics, and dynamic drivers.

Ah, looks like I have some sachiko building in my near future so!!

I even have an enable kit here to do a job on them!

Thanks guys, I know you must be asked these questions endlessly and it must get boring after a while. I might try and pick up some BB over the weekend and start a build in the next few weeks.

I am pretty happy with the fonkens - but in my system at least they are a little lean.... and yes, the quads are a bugger to house (WAF low) and also the sweet spot is the width of your head. But I love them!

There seems to be few enough threads around about the sachiko - so what I might do when I start is to take photos as I go along and make a new thread on the build - what do you think?
