Hi all
can someone tell me how i figure out what size of lens i need. And will it be possable to project 16feet. Might be using my 15" panel from my Relisys TL540. Also can someone point me to a guide about how to work out distances between light source- condensor-fresnel- lcd- mirror -lens. I have tryed the search feature but being new to this I don't know the correct terms to use to get good searches, all my attempts seem to turn up every thread no matter what i search for.
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.
what do you think of my tower design.

Hi,

New to this as well, but I'll try and answer some of your questions the best I can. Hopefully someone will point out my mistakes and we'll both learn 😉

Do you mean a throw distance of 16 feet? i.e. the distance to the screen, rather than a 16foot image? I believe you'd need a pretty hefty long throw lens to do that. Check out http://www.diyprojectorcompany.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=23&products_id=69 - The site has a nice selection of kits and designs - useful to the newbie!

The light source should be at a distance equal to the rear fresnal's focal length. For my setup, that'll be about 8.5".

Fresnals sandwich the LCD, with a minimum of 1" between them to prevent rings appearing from the fresnals.

The distance between the front fresnel and the projection lens should be just under focal length of the front fresnal. Good idea to have the lens on a slider so you can tweak it.

Once you have the gear just fiddle and adjust until it gives best results 😉
