The original design is a Mullard alike but it delivers a lot more power. No matter what the starting point would be, I was decided to apply all possible modifications both as a learning curve and in quest for good sound. Some of the mods were done for technical reasons i.e. the heaters DC elevation for the driver and the improved fixed bias circuit that is immune to the pots' wiper failure. Sonically, the biggest change came when I tweaked the driver stage ( LC decoupling from the power stage, substitute 12AU7 for 6N6P, and tail CCS. The rest is all about personal itch: full triode, classA, balanced input. I like it very much but you will never find out what you like unless you start building.
