First speaker build

Can you do that?

The different drivers in the asymmetric group will see different electrical damping so won't resonate the same either I fear - its like having two large and one small kid on a garden trampoline, that never ends well...

With series strings they should be identical drivers (with identical acoustic loading). Parallel is the preferred setup as there are no electrical interactions possible as the amp is a voltage source.

-- Unless you have a current source amp (rare, but not unknown), all should be in series ideally, and any parallel drivers need to be identical...

Could someone help create crossover for 2x SB 15OB350 and 1x FaitalPRO 12FE330 ? I want 2x15" do low frequency, 12"mid to reasonable cros to horned tweeter around 1-2 khz. Total hight from floor 110cm, by 50cm wide, and 50cm deep. To fit all drivers I think to use 1x15" in down firing slot load. I found someone on this forum managed to do same, so I'll share just concept drawing.

@DainiusK In your proposed design, where the low frequencies are being handled by 2x SB 15OB350 drivers, can it be assumed that the drivers will be connected in series? If not, then you will get a very large sensitivity mismatch with the 12FE330, as a parallel connection will yield a +6dB boost in their combined SPL.

@witwald Yes it will, as it meant to do 30-50hz lift in open baffle arrangement, and to use Perry Marshal bass boost circet I need higher impedance at start, for it not to drop below 4ohn. This is what I think at least, but if I would get +6db from paralel at same region or even more is welcomed in OpenBaffle build.

Hi @perrymarshall, wish you and everyone good new year!

I have ordered Umik-1 microphone, and wanted to ask of your approval for 2X SB 15OB350 drivers in combination with FaitalPRO 12FE330 and hrn loaded tweeter. I have not manage to make crossover for same, but if I would mount all in a baffle and take frequency sweeps in room I think maybe would help? Just befor ordering I just want your approval just not to waist money if you would think otherwise ? THANK YOU and EVERYONE helping me out with first speaker

Personally, I don't like the idea of using one woofer on a vertical baffle and one horizontal, slot loaded. They won't see the same acoustic load. I'd be wary of this, especially series connected. And why use the faital 12" as a mid driver? Initially you seemed to be want to use it as a woofer, no?

I'm also puzzled that you are talking about using a passive bass boost, but also show what appears to be active crossover circuitry.

As you know, @perrymarshall and others are very generous with their knowledge and time, here on diyaudio, and will often offer advice to people starting out. I don't want to speak for Perry, but I don’t think he or anyone else is in a position to provide an entire crossover design for you, or commit in advance to acting as an unpaid consultant to a first time designer.

My advice would be to build an established design as your first build. You'll learn a lot from that and can then branch out.

I dont know anything in this field, so i am just trying to read as much and ask for advice as much as i can. For example I understood that 2x 12" drivers are slim in a low end reproduction, so 2x 15" preferable, but because I have only 1.1m hight available for total open baffle space, I thouth of puting one angled down - I didnt know it would change anything...
Regarding passive and active crossovers - I olso dont understand, I thought that I was doing passive, and active means DSP?
And I do appreciate everyones time and knowledge, and I was open to pay in advance if it would fit in a budget! My bet I misunderstood given advises on programs to use for the build, as it apeared to me that if I am taking drivers used in established build, it simplifies proces. - I was wrong, and I am sorry if I bothered anyone.

Hello, I just managed to get all mounted on approximate 1.2 x 0.6m baffle, and took measurements of the drivers mounted ( horn loaded tweeter, FaitalPro 12FE300 midrange, and SB Acoustics 18SW450 woofer) in room. For Impedance used DATS v3, and umik mic for SPL.
Could someone give some crossover advices please, THANKS.
