Hello all!
I've returned from my hiatus to post up in the car audio section...of all places 😉. Anyhow my friend has a Pontiac G5 and I recently showed him my system: Pioneer Elite DV-45A, NAD C320 BEE, 3-way Open Baffles. Most importantly though I opened his eyes to Super Audio CD one of two new high resolution audio formats.
He was amazed! Then said, I want this sound in my car. So, I google away and apparently Sony has released two SACD capable car audio decks- MEX-DV1000 and MEX-DV2000. I look up the specs and I see 24-bit Burr-Brown DACs and amplifying circuitry with tremendous player capability. Well, it also turns out that the deck is UNAVAILABLE in North America so ebay it is. The result: Sony MEX-DV2000 ordered for $300 out the door including brokerage!
Installing this deck was a treat, the face plate is more on the elegant side and looks nice-really! The problem though, was that the deck is LONG too long for a plastic brace in the G5's dash...a hack saw and about thirty minutes saw that brace gone and out of the way. We now had to run the wires behind the metal brace and over it to connect the deck.
The MEX-DV2000 is the multi channel (5.1) version of the deck series (optional monitor..the deck with a monitor should be released in UK by August) so I left that as the default setting despite the system missing a center channel (using CSO to blend the center signal into the front speakers). It is AWESOME! That is the best darn car deck that I have ever heard and that is through stock speakers.
Anyhow, I shall get pictures and I'll be able to keep you guys up to date. Right now I have the current frequency response 'only'.
The system right now:
Infinity BassLink
Sony MEX-DV2000
Monster Cable wiring throughout-minus the speakers...for now lol.
There is an empty fuse in the Pontiac G5 and actually keeps RAP (Retained Accessory Power) which beats tapping into ignition wires.
