The OP could edit their post and remove the information. They can't touch anyone else's posts or delete the thread.
What happens to the quotes referencing to the first post after if the OP deletes the first post ?
They would stay and the links would stay. I don't think the OP can delete the post, just edit it. So all URLs remain the same.
No they cannot..... That would affect everyone else's post count........ If someone replies to it,they can no longer delete it.....
I think this is more a hypothetical question rather than a problem tbh. I can't recall any such incident occurring and even if it did then as Jason suggests, the post could be restored from a backup. Locking or closing the thread would then presumably stop the OP repeating the action.
Just my thoughts on it 🙂

With great power comes great responsibility 😉 I'd suggest the power to edit the first post is essentially an "honor" system 🙂

Quite so. So listen up y'all 😛

Ok, just wanted to make a note, since there are forums out there where deletion of the first post is possible and it was never good.
Anyway, we expect to see some hot drama around this new feature 😀
Just to mention that attachments can't be updated 😉
What I mean by "updated" = swapped, replaced by other pics.

A year and a half in and we've not had much to deal with. Let's hope it stays that way. 🙂
Any thoughts on the OP being able to add and or updated attachments in the first post in addition to the text? For threads with fast developing content being able to actually manage attachments in the first post might be nice instead of simply linking to changing content.
I think there is a platform technical limit to that? But we should post it to Jason to make sure.
Thanks Salas, hopefully our administrator can let us know what is technically possible and what is not. You and your teams efforts are appreciated.
You can always ask for the help of a mod to change the odd attachment nonetheless. This is a safer method also for avoiding deletion of useful content by a thread opener who has gone sour or dodgy with his audience well after a project or GB is already in the making. Not the norm at all, but there have been one or two cases in the past.
I understand the need to try to maintain a thread's integrity. The suggestion arises when some of these threads run into 100+ pages and 1000's of posts where the content gets lost. I had an example recently where I had to scan back 15 pages to get to the salient file that was maybe a week old. Anyhow it would still be nice to get an official Yay or Nay on the topic.
I posted the question to Jason anyway, I know he is busy this period, but when I will get his official answer I will let you know.

This is a technical limitation of the current software we use. We'll be on a new platform in a few months, which will resolve this and many more things.
