I got there!!!

Hey hey! Lemon is back!

Sorry im terrible at keeping up with this. Been a crazy crazy 6 months!

So far have completed:

fhxl alpair 10.p (currently mdf trial build version).

Speaker cable : initially used silver plated occ cooper set (aircraft grade scrap wire). Have since aquired some furutech cables (courtesy of a very generous soul ) i have to admit to a very pronounced sound difference. Furutech> silver plated.
Diy hand braided CAT5 cables Half done and being tested soon.

diy SET 8wpc (built by another modified by myself.)

Diy silver interconnects.

JDS labs Odac.

Pics up very soon.

Super doooooooper impressed with this this combination So far.
Lots more happening shortly (im home now yayy!)

Its something. (Sorry very few build progress shots, but happy to answer questions)

Alpair 10p in Frugel-Horn XL.

dave

Hey mate! Thanks for all your previous info, been very helpful! Got them built, paired with a 8wpc set GU50 amp.
Sound wonderful.
Some of the best audio I've ever experienced.

Wondering if you have any advice regarding there set up, i have a large open dining / living room, and the missus is fine with elaborate structures lol.
Ide like to build corners, to get the bass a bit more extended and directional.
Large ones ok, even something like this plausible
** Frugel-Horn | Stereophile.com **
Wondering if you have any advice, i can't find to much.

Or is this just commonsense and experimentation area?

Cheers

Zia is right on all points, the horns in the photo were one of several experiments, and the "portable" corner was IIRC (quite a few years ago now) approx 24" deep - ripped from a sheet of 1" shop ply per side. The Fostex FE126E definitely benefits from corner loading in both the FH1 and FH3, while other drivers don't necessarily need it.

I think it's fair to say that in all respects the FHXL substantially outperforms the original FH, and with the right driver ( Alpair 10.3)- at the price of a large footprint.

I've heard them in rooms much larger than my own, and provided there is even a partial back wall - half height "pony" wall for example, they might not need much more. Without knowing a bit more about the size and shape of the prospective space, it'd be fun, but probably pointless to conjecture - not that that has ever stopped us 😉

Would a Google sketchup file of the space be useful?
I can easily draw that up one of these evenings
