tell me some bands you listen to...Im curious.
me too , maybe we can all share some bands in PVT
Kiske1,
I am thinking FAST - Full Range AssiSTed.
How about a metal FR/wideband driver to handle the mid-tweet part? Complement that with a 10" woofer that can go up to 500 Hz. That way the heavy lifting in lower frequencies (and power zone) is done by the woofer, while the FR does the mid and highs nicely (cymbals, lead guitar, vocals). Using a decent FR unit would help reduce the challenge in having the mid blend with the tweeter.
Iduarte1973, Aptquark, have a look at these components and tell us what you think:
1 Pair of Mark Audio CHR-70.3 Full range drivers found on this page:
Markaudio-Lautsprecher
Dayton DC250-8 Woofer on this page:
Dayton-Lautsprecher
Building a simple box (sealed maybe) for the MA CHR-70 and use that with the Dayton? Bi-amping would be good to play around with the efficiency though. If the FR plays too loud, again we'll be back to square one - too less music and too much thin noise!

I do like your suggestions...only problem is that Marks drivers need carefull break in. Also...I dont want the OP to have to much to deal with being that this is his first build. We have to break him in gently...he could very well go over the top and never recover!
+1
i think paper woofers and metal dome tweeters sound better for this type of music (specialy 80´s stuff)
I think this is a more practical idea. If he can get the cabinet made well..with good bracing, and can handle the XO build...this would work really well.
Also...we all have diff. definitions of what is metal. For instance, Im not into death metal..but I do like Slipknot, 80's metal (Iron Maiden, Saxon, etc), Refused...though they could also be classified as Punk.
my tastes go for the 80´s rock :whitesnake , maiden , d.leppard , van halen etc

that seems good as long as he can build the crossover
mighty midgets.
He's got to get his hands dirty though. Poke himself a few times...burn a finger...you know, the fun stuff.
A went away a couple of hours and wow.... a full page of answers...
[OT mode on]
Regarding the music I listen to I could say that I listen much 80's band's more likely classic metal (Iron Maiden, saxon, helloween...) but also hair metal (Motley crue, the old bon jovi...) sometimes I listen to thrash and old death too. But i'm very eclectic, and listen to a wide range of music (wich includes the word "rock")
[OT mode off]
I've seen the JBL from ebay, but as aptquark said I'd like to get the hands dirty, and cause me some harm... so buying used cabinets is not my way to go...

we listen to the same type of music exactly , that´s why i was going to jbl , i have mains and jbl subs
Yep, I'm also pretty "full-range" on metal too - Iron Maiden, Dio, Judas Priest, Rush, AC/DC, Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Sepultura. Also some hair metal .
Love rock guitar too - Joe Satriani anyone?
Waiiiiit
I've just remembered that somewhere in the vault I have a couple of these:
FBT Lightforce LF50 PAIR (Series 1 VERY RARE!) :: Session Music The UK's No1 Karaoke Specialists - Karaoke Machines Players CDG Discs And Equipment
One is fully functional, while the other has the mid and the tweeters blown up, as I've used to attach them the to a Phonic MAR-4....
I should dismantle them to see the models of the mid and the tweeter...
But the 15" woofers are both good so at least I can take them out to build my own project...
I think that I should use something more powerfull than the LM3886 in that case...
