first diy dac recomendations?

I´m planning my first diy audio project, a dac. I have a few question I would like to have answered, before the project gets going.

1:st What kit to buy?

I have been looking on some of snow48_6 kits on ebay for example:

which one would you recommend?

2:nd whats the advantage / disadvantaged with nos. I primarily listen to rock/pop/electrical but not so much jazz/classical

Is this the right transformer for the NEW-BIG-24bit-192Hz-HI-FI-DAC-DIY-KIT- ?
and Is it the same for the other kits?

4:th since its my first diy project it needs to be simple so no major mods are planed for now

forgot to say that i´m going to use it with my squeezebox and cambridge 540c, so obviously I want the dac to be better than the one in my 540c

also another question. Does the transport meke any difference? And if it does what difference and why? Also heard some saying that coax is better than optical, true?
