First construction of Hi-Fi Loudspeak Box

This will be my first attemp to design and construct a Hi-Fi Box.

Here is the driver that I want to use:

Tweeter: Vifa D19TD05
Woofer: Cambridge Speaker Add-Ten

Here is the spec of the woofer:

Size: 10in
Nom. Impedence : 8ohms
Power RMS: 100
Freq. Response: 30-2.5k
Sensibility: 92.2
V.C. Dia: 1 1/2
Basket Material: Stamped Steel
Fs: 37
Qts: .462
Qes: .538
Qms: 3.25
Vas (Cu. Ft.): 3.635
Xmax: .243
Mms: 32.3
Cms: 598
Re: 5.2
V.C. inductance: .8
SD (sq m.) : .035012
Magnet Weight: 20oz
Effective Code Dia: 8 5/16
Cone matl: Plasticized PVA Treated Paper
Surround Material: Foam: Medium Density

The add-ten is currently in a Cannon Translinear box (replacement of the original speaker that died sometime ago) but the driver in this box is a piezo type and I don't like at all the sound of it, that why I want to design and build a box made for the Add-ten and using the Vifa tweeter. Any comment if the add-ten worth the effort?

thanks in advance,

Francois

It looks like there could be a problem with the tweeter and woofer. You will want to have some overlap of the responses of these two drivers. The tweeter is quite small and may not have low enough extention to integrate well with the 10" driver.

Options are to get a tweeter with a lower Fs or get a midrange driver and make the design 3 way.

I'm not saying the tweeter won't work, but judging from the size, I don't think it'll work well. Let us know the Fs of the tweeter and what it's frequency response is.

No idea about whether the 10" driver is worth it or not.

As you can see, the response of the tweeter and woofer do not overlap. I've never made a 3 way, but I'd say give it a shot. Most tweeters are not going to go as low as you need to go with the 10" woofer. Something between 3-6 inches would probably work well. You could cross the woofer off under 1000, the tweeter around 5000. The mid can fill in between.

I think Parts Express still has some vifa buyout drivers that could fit the midrange well. Being in Canada, you may have a better source to avoid the charges associated with shipping though.

I'll be heading to Canada in a week for a Northern Ontario fishing expedition. I can't wait! Good Luck,

Austin
