I'm doing a voxel sub which uses a port tube flared at both ends so it needs to be installed before final assembly/glue up. The flare is not recessed and has about a 1/16" lip.
So to paint or finish in general is the solution to tape off the port using the slight lip of the port to hold the tape? Is there a more creative solution that I'm missing?

Can you build the box, then install the inside of the port through the driver or plate amp hole?
If so, paint first and install later.

Sorry for not getting back sooner.
This is why I post stupid questions because the most obvious solution evades me.
Thanks lead ear.
I have actually decided to try covering the speaker with the stuff they use to cover model airplanes with. I've used the stuff extensively in the past for air planes. The stuff comes in all sorts of cool colors and best of all you don't need warm weather to spray paint outside with spray bombs. No waiting for it to dry, comes out very shiny, etc.
