Death to screws!

I think you will find that the biscuit approach builders a stronger box with far less finnishing work.

I have a bunch of very cheap clamps that I picked up at Harbor Frieght on sale (they always have a sale) that work great. I use Gorilla Clue (deadly stuff).

Biscuits tend to "pull" the box into squareness and add a lot of strength.

Next time I won't be using screws - they were only used as a method of clamping. Nothing to do with strength. Really a pain in the a@# to align the panels and get everything smooth. Next time I will try the biscuits method, or just plain old clamping.

Marchand kits were the XM1-k and PS10-K. I configured it for 2nd order at 40Hz. They really are excellent quality with thorough documentation.

Performance with music is just great. Bottom end now seems limitless. Scale and impact has improved and so things seem a bit more like a live venue now.

Totaly impressed

I'm totally impressed by your anlysis.

Have you looked into parametric equalization of the lower octaves?

You could force more bass response out of it. Marchand makes subwoofer controller (expensive) that might get you to the next step. There also lots of inexpensive Op amp equalizers you could build and run off the same power supply.

Below is a link to a couple of my projects. You will see the marchand cross overs in the rack with a gaincloe sitting next to it.

The big ribbon speakers are Raven3s. They are crossed over at 80hz. Only the 12" speaker in the old JBLs below it are in paly.

I'm currently working on a Tripath amp to replace the gainclone.

Hi Bill

I really don't think the EQ is necessary. -3dB at 20Hz is adequate for me 😉
If I want a little more low end, I just increase the gain. 0dB at 20Hz is achievable but then you have power handling issues (10dB of gain would be necessary).
I'm no bass freak. The goal was a good match for a typical AV amp, small enclosure, simple crossover and power handling that matched my mains.
BTW your link doesn't work.
Cheers
David

OT: Routers

Hi David,

I've been thinking of getting a new router for a subwoofer grill, and saw your post.

What do you think of your Ryobi ERT241200?

Positives, negatives, durability, reliability, Jasper jig attachment etc?

I'm going to track one down. I think Bunnings do it for $89...

Hi Tktran
The little Ryobi is great. In fact, I'm so impressed with Ryboi's value for money, that virtually all of my power tools are now that brand.
Have had no reliability issues or faults with it at all.
The Jasper Jig mates fine with it.
Don't skimp on the router bits - good quality $30-$40 ones make routing a pleasure (almost ).
I bought mine from Bunnings too - can't remember what I paid for it, but $89 sounds about right. The real cheap routers like Ozito are crap, stay away from them.
