I just finished a set of mini speakers based on the TangBand W4-1337SD
The official FR curve is really attractive but is missing a raised up band from 1KHz to 9Khz that I measured in a closed test box:
Taming this curve passively means quite a few components: one RC impedance correction, a notch filter and a 12db low pass...
That makes me feel the need to experiment on active crossover and equalization (minidsp?)
After many attemps here is what I got in the final speaker:
I am quite happy with the result, especially the sound stage. Of course real bass is missing but with a sub, it's OK.
This first attempt with a full range driver make me think that a good solution might be a 2 way speaker: full range + (sub)woofer
About the aesthetics, I made it with a very high WAF as you can see:

Do you have any off-axis measurements (the on-axis doesn't help much without them)

Vinyl on the curved sides and leather for the others.Excellent work! WAV is indeed high! Is the exterior a vinyl?

Neato! With all that extra hi frequency output with the driver (without compensation) it seems we can tailor their sound to suit our tastes.
They really look cool. Nice Work..... Wish I could hear them in real. BTW what equipments and tools did you use. Frequency response is really much linear. Not many small speakers would do this job. can you post, correction you used.

I am very interested ... I have a whole bunch of exactly these drivers here and I want to use them to make small satellite speakers for rear channels in 7.1 surround.

These speakers aren't dipole you know.
To make them dipole you'd very probably need a complete redesign of baffle and crossover, right?

You could put two of the cabinets next to each other, facing 90 degrees away from each other, wired out of phase.
Worked for the surround sound I use (admittedly, the drivers are different, but the spaciousness of the sound is pretty impressive).

You mean like the typical little Bose speakers?
I'm afraid you'll need to find another term to describe those than "dipole" as the term "dipole" already has a meaning when it comes to speakers.
A "dipole" speaker doesn't have an enclosure and radiates sound to thze front and to the back simultaneously.

No, that's an Open Baffle. There's no rule that a dipole has to have no enclosure.
What it does however mean is that you have to radiate sound to the front and the back, with inverse phase.
If the speaker radiates sound out the front and the back in the same phase, it's a Bipole.

And those are an artifact of when the surround decoders were really bad.
If you are thinking of a dipole as a surround speaker, forget it. They are an HT artifact worse than the sideways MTM for centre.

I've never liked the double satellite speakers either but what exactly do you mean by "sideways MTM centre", Dave?
