I was looking for the type of attenuator that I bought from you earlier either an Alps or Noble, and at that price point. This one is probably a whole lot better, but I think I'll pass on this one, thanks.

Item Highlight : Hamlin's / Lafayette SK98
These drivers are badged "Hamlin's", but they are identical in every other way to the more common Lafayette SK98, which several vintage enthusiasts have compared favorably with highly esteemed standards like the WE 755a.
All flavors of this driver were actually manufactured by Pioneer, whose house version was dubbed the PIM8L.
As a student of driver design, I am very intrigued and impressed by these units with their mechanically-crossed two-way cones. To me, they represent the highest advancment of fullrange cone technology before the market took an (unfortunate?) turn into multi-way design.
As with standard whizzer technology, the outer cone is coupled somewhat flexibly to the voice coil to roll of in the upper octaves, and the center cone is coupled tightly. However, the innovation here is that the center cone is not free-standing, but reattaches to the outer cone, lending effective mechanical transmission-line termination and preventing out-of-phase radiation from the rear which can make the response of freestanding whizzers ragged.
I have two pairs of these Hamlin's drivers, both sets fully functional. One pair has rougher cosmetics (a few stains, etc), and I'd be willing to let those go for $75. For the nicer-looking pair, I'd take $125.

These are facinating little guys. Their 45-ohm impedance means you can array them in great numbers with no or very few series connections. This can be a big advantage in an array since, if drive parameters differ even a little (and they always do!), series connections in arrays can cause negative driver interacations.
On the other hand, I'd also thought it would be fun to make up some series arrays for over 1k-ohm impedance for direct tube drive sans output transformer. (

I was planning massive square bessel arrays, power/frequency-tapered arrays, etc.
I have maybe 200 of these.
You can buy 'em en masse @ 2 for a dollar, and I might be able to give special deals for large quanties.

Item Highlight : Coral FE103a pair
Dave (Planet10) is the resident expert on these little beauties, and he wrote a nice summary here. These are the most desirable 8-ohm holey-basket version. Sweet sounding and in great shape.
$75 a pair--a unique bargain considering their performance and rarity.

I'd be scooping them, but for the fact i'm already sitting on 2 pair... the Sony Tapecorders have very nice TamRadio (ie Tamura) SE output transformers, suitable for EL84, 6V6 etc. They also have a 600 ohm tape which would make excellent drive for a sub amp (or to make a real balsy pre-amp)
