hezz im very sorry i must have ben sleeping when i said 5' 9" at 100" the lens is at 6' 9" im sorry for the confusion
my buddy has it setup at 8' from the wall and the diagonal is 120"
he has 8' celings the bottom of the pj is 5' high and placed behind his seating position so hes sitting around 5' from the wall and the screen door is not an isue at all
soon as he recieves his screen i will post pics of the image
dracul no i havent recieved any of your emails cruser_1001@hotmail.com is the right adderess but anyways you cannot get those large fresnels in a doule fresnel they are singles only 12.2 " fresnel is the largest the come doubled
the fresnels i ordered are not for the 15" lcds they are much larger than the 15.75" fresnels the ones i ordered for $100 each are 250mm focal 500mm diameter 0.5 pich and a 400mm focal 450mmX500mm and a 0.3 pich these 2 fresnels will work with lcd's up to 19" diagonal
the only reason i got them for $100 each was because i ordered several of them,a single order of 2 lenses would cost about $250 minimum with shipping and bank fees for money transfer
my origonal order for 2 lenses i was quoted $75.00 just for shipping
thats why i held the group buy the more ppl that would have gotten in the cheaper they would have ben for everyone but not to many ppl took advantage
after seing the results from this pj i may be holding another buy soon but i still have to build my projector man i ben building projectors left and right and i still dont have one but im glad i have waited this long because 1600X1024 true 24 bit color is so sweet at any distance from the screen and im stuck with my room and 5' is the farthest i can sit away
if you are serious about the fresnels email me and ill try to set something up

Cruser,
Just sent you email. So I will repeat the email here incase you dont get it. You sure your spam settings dont block yahoo mail?
So the FLs are right and the grooves are right to join these 2 fresnels and use them as one OHP style projector(fresnel out of the image path between lamp and lcd)?
0.3 pitch is what compared to 100 dot pitch I read in places?
There is an auction here in brasil for a sgi 1600sw that ends in 6 days. If I miss it will cost me a bit more to get it from the usa.
Still I will probably do it if necessary.
I just want to make sure that I have a fresnel solution for it and roughly what it will cost before buying it because I wont use it for anything else. So do you think $250 including shipping to brasil?
Is this 1 month shipping or faster?
my email is: draculx2002@yahoo.com or you can try also
soraya409@hotmail.com
How are the blacks and contrast compared to the cmv1512?
Your buddy is also using the 3m OHP triplet? So thats 10 feet diagnol screen sitting 5 feet away and no screen door? Thats pretty bluddy amazing.

Cruser,
Sorry, I was not reading straight.
So fresnel 1 :250mm focal - 500mm diameter 0.5 pich
Is this rectangular fresnel with a clear diameter of 500mm?
Fresnel 2: 400mm focal 450mmX500mm and a 0.3 pich
So this is rectangular. But the different dot pitch will not allow me to join it to the other fresnel if I want to keep the fresnel out of the image path. Can I only use these split where lcd is in between them?

If the fresnels have different pitch counts placing them together behind the LCD would give you unwanted results. Behind the LCD the same pitch count is needed. Split, different pitch counts are needed.

Cruser,
Thanks for the feedback and clarification. Your 24 bit 17 inch is an inspiration. I hope you will be able to keep it or is it for someone else. It's unfortunate that most of us don't have the funds to build a dedicated home theater room of the proper size and dimensions but if I suppose that we did we would be buying barcos instead of making our own projectors.
JCB, and Cruser,
Thanks for the dissimilar fresnel pitch information. That is very valuable. I had not stopped to realize this situation but it makes sense.

the one i just built was for a friend but im working on mine next with the same parts except i gave my lens up
im hoping to find or make a large triplet for mine

I may have access to a Beta II lens by US Precision . Its 150mm diameter and 320mm FL triplet. Aparently its for crt projectors. Will it work with the 17 inch sgi perfectly?
Dracul,
I believe that I read on another site that the Beta II lens was originally designed to project an image from a 14 or 15 inch LCD for a rear projection TV. As such it may have a wide enough field of view to be used with a 17 inch wide screen LCD. It is probably the best bet of all the surplus lenses around that I have heard of and if you could get it cheap it would be worth a try. Though it may have a short throw distance with a 17 inch wide screen LCD.
Also because of it's large diameter it should gather a lot of light.

Hezz, I didnt want to make it sound like you cant use 2 fresnels with different pitch counts behind the LCD... you can like Cruser said as long as you space them. But you wont have an ideal optical engine. Like AWI told me ("You can, but dont want to") 🙂

Jcb the frensels i use have 2 different pitch counts and work fine together, the gap between ohp frensel,s with them together is somthing like 0.25mm so its not a real issue, they work both ways.

JCB,
I understand, no apologies are necessary. I am always wanting to know the optimum way things should work as well as what can be gotten by with. By the way good work on your projector and I want to compliment you on adding a great deal to this forum. Because of the money you spend on better quality optics and things you were able to experiment in ways most of us cannot afford.

Thanks Hezz... same to you on your lens info. Keep up the good work. I'm looking forward to seeing that DIY triplet.
Ace, like I said I know they work together, but the same pitch count would give you better results (if you keep them both behind the LCD). Which is why ALL OHP's fresnels have the same pitch and single panel commercial projectors using split fresnels have different pitch counts.

You might want to tale a rain check on that one bud lol ive seen both.
Trev
Oh I keep forgetting... the great and powerful ACE is always right 🙂 I guess the techs at Edmund and AWI are wrong then. lol
lol smart ...........yeah! you know i mean lol, but yeah i have seen them, i agree with you though, its not the best way to do things as in having 2 different pitched frensels together, if you realy look at it, its just like having 2 different pcx lenses together, but in reality on frensels we have rings so yeah, the obvious.

Actually they are right, but they can only be right if you give them very specific info, they are good guys down there and ive recomended them to a few before, its good to have pro's on at hand at times.
