FFC and FPC cables

Hey guys!
I just found this forum yesterday night at about 4am and the whole idea of a diy projector just blew my mind so I scoured the internet for more info until finally going to sleep at about 9am hehe. Anyway, today I successfully disassembled my viewsonic ve500. The only problem is that 2 of the pcbs are connected view a short 16 contact FPC cable. I know that FFC extension kits are sold by diybuildergroup http://www.diybuildergroup.com/store/lcd/index.htm and I'm not really sure what the difference between FPC and FFC is. Does anyone know if this would work with an FPC cable? Thanks.

FFC/FPC

I think FFC & FPC are the same thing. You might want to look at:

http://www.mouser.com/catalog/620/901.pdf

Or the next page, where they have 1.0 mm FFC stuff.

Items with style code C are surface mount sockets with a slider you push in to lock an FFC in place. You can fit two FFC cables into the socket and then push the slider down to lock them together (conductor-side to conductor-side.)

Items with style code D are the FFC cables in 3" or 6" lengths.

(Items with style codes A & B are also ZIF sockets that might work, but I have not tried them.)

These are very easy to use, as cheap as any I have seen, and Mouser will send them immediately! They don't have a minimum order amount, unlike most electronic supply places. Mine arrived in two days, but I live pretty close to them. I had two of the 6" 20 conductor cables daisy-chained and installed (and my stripped panel running 😀 😀 😀 in 10 minutes!
