I think when he said AC on DC, he meant ripple. In other words the DC supply is real choppy, as in unfiltered. I could be wrong.

Let's be clear. ProJr uses EL84 not EL34.

No. EL34 in the first post (repeatedly) is a typo. The ProJr uses EL84 which is the same as US type 6BQ5.

Thanks all for the responses. All the diodes test fine, as do the screen grid resistors so next I'll go grab a new pair of EL84's (EL34 typo in my OP oops) and hopefully that's it.
