Ok, there are no protection relays connected to the speaker outputs on this unit. I disconnected CN6 which is the input from the mixer board to the power amp section and guess what, no squeal or pop coming from the speakers so what does that mean? Is there a bad ground some where in the system causing this?
Hi Tom,
You are probably trying to repair a "design feature". The only thing that will solve this problem is to mute the output from the mixer. Tell me, has anyone replaced any op amps by chance? That could do this. I wouldn't think you have a ground problem unless someone has been plying in there. "Recapping" a product is a great way to generate weird and wonderful problems. TIM, technician induced malfunction.

I replaced one of the op amps because it was bad
Curiouser and curiouser.
I was getting high voltage (about 15 volts dc going through the output from the mixer that goes into the power amp.
