Fender Frontman 212R - Extremely Loud Popping Noises..

Hello, all. I have a Fender Frontman 212R amplifier. A potentially decent amp, but I bought it used and originally it was making a crackling noise that got increasingly annoying. So I took a look inside, undid some screws, didn't see anything wrong (I'm not an amp technician though..). When I put everything back where it was, it now makes an extremely loud machine gun popping noise, that is so terrible I have to just turn it off. :bomb:

Any help would be great. I've searched around this forum and didn't find any cases with this amp that were as severe. I would send it to a technician, but I don't think there are any in my area. I can add a photo or video upon request. :xfingers:

You had a small noise, and now it does something new. That means that something you did during your exploration has caused the new symptom. If one of your screws is involved in grounding and was left out, that could cause issues. If you disconnected anything and put the connector back on but off one pin, that could cause major issues. Possibly you knocked some part enough to crack its solder, and so that caused the problems. Maybe a screw or nut rolled under the circuit board and is touching something.

It happens to all of us.

Cloudsound check out a thread we did on my FM212R, I had a similar problem except mine didn't sound like a machinegun, it did do crazy stuff though. This thread goes over a lot of tests and input and results that I am sure would help you trace down the problem. Its intimidating when the amp that is broken is your own but I would like to share this with you: If you will put forth the effort, you will win.
