Hi guys.
I just received a Fender Deluxe Reverb (silverface, I guess it's a 65 or 68 original) for fixing the normal channel witch has volume but treble and bass do not work. When turning up the bass control, sound gets thin and weak.
I swapped tube #1 and #2, and result is the same: no EQ on normal channel, tremolo channel works fine with both tubes.
Any idea what might be going on with the normal channel?

I replaced all caps with similar values. 390pF 400V poliester instead of 250pF ceramic, 0.1uF 400V instead of 630V and 0.033uF n600V instead of 0.047uF 630V. Thats what I had on hand. The treble control does work now but the bass control does not. When I turn it ccw, it cuts out the bass frequencies but when turning cw (approx at 2 o'clock), it cuts out again leaving only the treble.
The normal channel now sounds noticeably weaker than the other channel, and it's supposed to sound the same.
Maybe it's because I used slightly different values but I really don't think so.
Any more ideas?

Starting to think the pot itself is bad. Do you have anything that can be wired in just to try out?
Your right, Rayma, it was the pot.
It measured allright with a multi-meter, that why I had a hard time locating the faulty part.
I replaced it with a 500k although it should be 250k. And replaced all caps with the original ones. Sound OK now.
The caps that I replaced at first gave a slightly different but interesting sound.
Thanks for your hint.

Most pots are crap. The only reliable pot was the old Allen Bradley
