So yes what is the best internal volume?

Well, if you're talking about the current FE108EZ family vis a vis the FE103, they're both more than 3" and less than 5", and made by Fostex, but I think the similarities end there.

Not much bass to be had from the 108ES in anything other than a BLH type enclosure, but effortlessly stellar midrange almost guaranteed.

try the FE127 in monopole MLTL , per:

since it's an MLTL, the length of line and location of driver are fairly important.

If space is not a consideration, the BIB would probably outperform the monopole.

The big difference between the FE103M and the FE108S is Q.

FE103M is 0.35, while the FE108S is 0.22.
