I have a Quad 66 which I just like the presentation of.
also have a B&O 3500 which I should really take off the wall and test in my main system for comparison. I believe these may have a discrete output stage.

Try here, very handy list QIP.RU
Just trying my B&O 3500. The sound stage is a bit wider than the Quad, listening to the first track on Ed Sherans last album the guitar is clearer and more dimensional, but his voice is a little less for ward and not quite as earthy. Both good, the B&O cleaner, the Quad has it on the voice though.

Sneaky lot, link worked last night. Now going to their advertiser. Just search CD transport list in Google. Its a blue page with an a to Z list of players and their DACs / transports
Most B&O players of the period used the TDA1541A except the CD50 (philps internals) or the CDX which I recall has 2 x 1540 . Much better than people gave them credit for as never got tested with other equipment. They have big transformers, proper caps, output stages.
