Hi All,

I wander if you could help me with this problem ??

This lcd panel seems to have developed a fault, and will only display 2/3rds of the picture, and the bottom 1/3rd is blank ??

If i give it a sharp tap or two, the 1/3rd blank of the picture comes back ?? And maybe goes again shortly after........

I've taken it apart and looked at there doesn't seem to be any loose wires or connectors, i've also reseated the exsisting cables and connectors to make sure.

Could it be a dry joint on one of the boards ?? Or could one of the circuit boards have warped ??

I do have some basic electronic skills, and have a soldering iron & a multimeter to hand.

I don't have any manuals, or circuit diagrams for this unit, so i'm having trouble finding out what it wrong ??

Can anyone else shed some light on this problem ??

I'm connecting the panel via VGA from my PIII 1ghz HTPC, and that works ok, and the connecting cable seems ok !!

I'll try and post some pics ASAP.........

By tapping on it, and the LCD comes back to normal, leads me to believe that it's maybe a cold solder joint, or possibly a cracked trace on one of the boards. I would suggest closely examining each of the circuit boards with a magnifying lens, especially any portion that seems to attach to the lower portion of the display. The only other thing I can think of, is a loose, or messed up ribbon cable, but you said you had checked them already. Wish I could be of more help.😎

Hi All,

Well i've split the casing, and had a look at the insides. I've tracked the problem down to the circuit board on the edge of the LCD.

But it's mirco components here, and i'm out of my league here !!

The label on the LCD panel shows the following information:

Sharp
LQ9P011
43 301171

Any ideas, about getting a replacement ?? at what cost ?? Or would it be easier to just buy another panel ?? Does anyone know of a faulty unit where i could use the LCD ??

Did you look at that board with a magnifying glass? you might not see a crack or something like that without one. Also maybe mess with it while it's powered up? possibly you can localize it further by poking at certian sections with something non-conductive. Other than getting it professionally repaired, I'm all out of ideas. 🙁

Cosmic, if you can see the spot thats not connected you might try just holding down the wire and using tape as a Clamp,Or if you have any take it to a local electronics repair shop and have them fix it....just point out the bad spot, also if its a circuit trace thats cut get one of those conductive markers and fix it that way. hope that may spur more thoughts etc.:bawling: :idea: :clown:

Cheers for the info, i'll look into that. The first problem is getting access to that board, don't want to damage the LCD screen.

I'll give it a try, otherwise i'll look out for someone locally who does laptop screen repairs, and see how that goes ??

Hi Guys,

Thanx for the help, and no i aint breaking it so you can have the fan, i'd just like to fix this annoying problem.

After searching around the LCD panel used in this unit, seemed to be popular in 1st generation pentium laptops, so i might get one that way.......if i need to get a new / used unit.

But i'll keep an eye out, for someone local who could fix LCD panels.

BAD TAB

About the problem with no picture for 1/3 ,I believe its one of the TAB's or socalled BLOCK wich is defective.They located at the sides of the panel.
You can't repair it one side to the TAB has thousand's of wires tot the pixels...They are kitted not soldered.

So better look for another panel..


(repair technican LCD monitors.)
