FAST/WAW with two small woofer or one big

Is it better choice to have two 5 inch woofer with 8 ohm in parallel in sealed box or one 7.5 inch 4ohm woofer in sealed box? Mid tweeter will be SB SB65WBAC25 or Alpair 5. Crossover point will be around 400 Hz.

I call 7.5" still a small woofer actually.

But it all depends on what woofer and their specs. In general, a bigger woofer often works better than a few smaller ones in one cabinet. But with two woofers you could do an MTM setup, which also has it advantages. But those are just general assumptions, it all depends on what drivers in what kind of cabinet.

I did a FAST with the SB65 and four 5.25in woofers in a Trynergy type speaker. It had good bass and a good match after baffle step fall off to match the 82dB sensitive SB65.

Presenting the Trynergy - a full range tractrix synergy.

I don’t think two 5in are enough. I would go with a single 8in. Here is a XO for an 8in 4ohm woofer. You can replace the 8ohm full range with a 4ohm by using a bigger cap:

7.5 Satori is very good woofer, high sensitivity, low Fs, mms is very low

For a 400Hz crossover the MW19 is prety much perfect, but even the (much) cheaper plastic frame (PFC series) work pretty well. I have the SB20PFC in a small sealed box crossing to an L.Cao F6 and it is 'fast' enough for what I need it to do.

We did just such an experiment going from a single 7” (SDX7) to a pair of Silver Flute W14 going from Tysen V1 to Tysen V2.

2 woofers push-push worked much better than the the single woofer. More extended top made the blending easier, and that 4 W14 can be had for what a single SDX7 cost does not hurt. As well they can be had at 4, 8, or 16 ohms to give lots of juggle room for sensitivity if attempting a passive XO. In its ML-TL it reaches 35 Hx (F10) with no boundary support.

One of the reasons is the active force cancelation that push-push brings. Not to mention, mounted on the side have no transition from 2π to 4π radiation.

I have not heard the SB, the Alpair is superb.

...you could do an MTM setup

2 of our other WAW are MTM (and given XO less than the quarter wavelength at the XO, a proper MTM without lobing), and one is TMM. And another, the one i am listening to now has push-push woofer support (A5.2eN in µMar-KenSET up top). 2 x 4” Peerless 830870 per side. Twice as pricey as the SF (at least this side of the pond), same extension, taller ML-TL.

I have another push-push woofer that just needs the drivers installed, it should be a versatile support for a wide range of small satelites

My subwoofers are push-push, i have an addiitonal set of push-push helpers downstairs with no top that can go to a new home.

I am decidely a fan of 2 small over 1 large.

So your experience with two side mounted 51/2 inch woofer is better sounding than one 7inch woofer. Did you use sealed box design?

Just a quick FWIW that I've paired an SB65 with a Kartesian Sub120. Excellent results, from a really small box. Only down-side is the Sub120 needed around 5R in series with the SB65 to get the overall balance - overall sensitivity is low.

2x Sub120 in a W/FR/W format would improve sensitivity, and make it acoustically coaxial.

Chris. What is the crossover point from Sub120 and SB65.
I am also thinking about two 5 inch SBacoustic CAC 8 ohm in parallel.
