Just spent the last 4 hours putting together a component BOM for use with the BFR15 code. £324 after sales tax (VAT). Why 4 hours? Because none of the values of resistors in the right resistance, wattage or type are available..
Does their website accept it or warn what is preventing ... NO. Just "The voucher entered is currently inactive and cannot be applied to your order.".
WHAT A WASTE OF SPACE.
Livid. 😡
And they should throw in a spectrum analyser for my troubles 😀
Not happy. Way to go Farnell UK !

Farnell/Avnet/element14 have turned into utter **** the last 2 years.
I never buy anything from them, unless I have no option.
I certainly wouldn't waste my time buying resistors from them, as if RS comp don't have it, a nice large Chinese firm will, and for a fraction of the cost. (Who can argue? 50x 1% metal films 50ppm for less than the price of a pack of Rizla?)
The only time it's frustrating and I need to order from Farnell, may be for 0.1% 15ppm resistors, but those I can get at RS anyway most of the time

I used to use Farnell quite a bit.
I think min order value before paying p+p was about £15
I think it was last year they raised that to about £30
So stopped buying from them as RS is free whatever the order value.
Then I found it if I opened a trade account with Farnell I got free p+p
So opened trade account, compiled my order but still p+p added !
I wonder how much trade they lose because of that ?
CPC arent as bad I think its around £17.50 min order value and some of their stuff is very cheap compared to RS.
I wanted ten 4700uf 35v caps so looked on RS and they were £2 each.
Just out of interest I looked on ebay and for 10 off they are 61p each.

Yeah nigel but CPC *is* Farnell.
I stopped using CPC due to their lacklustre packing, though i used to use them alot, as they stocked many speakers in the UK that I would orherwise have to order from EU. Too many damaged items to bother again.

Yup. I tend to favour Mouser as they seem dependable and efficient. Farnell was more the 'higher cost if you can't find it' and the RS was more a gadget shop.
Well as it was talked about in another thread, RS gets used alot by sourcing depts in businesses.
So over the years they have branched out into selling misc stuff.
But tbh, it's rare I need to resort to Farnell, mouser or digikey to buy anything, even old stock High end instrumentation ICs (like MIL spec RMS to DC ICs)
But the backorder times do get larger and larger almost daily

I had same trouble with CPC, 100 resistors with little bits of tape on ends of resistors. Took about half an hour to peel them off ! Even just bandeliered would have been better or even just loose.
What CPC does have is quite cheap but there is a huge amount they dont have.
Getting parcels can be a nightmare. Delicate electronic components with legs that are easily bent.
Then you get a parcel with a footprint on it ! Then spend next 15 minutes straightening legs on components.
We have Newark here in the states (I think they're part of Farnell), and I can confirm that they're a PITA.
My favorite is "we are unable to calculate your shipping charge until after you place your order". Really guys? Really?

In The Netherlands we have a.o. Conrad for all sorts of electronics and components. I buy a “Business Plus” account each year for € 29,95. Once paid I don’t have to pay any shipping charges for that year, regardless of the orders placed and even for a small order value. This works for me for most components. Unfortunately they don’t sell all brands.

I've had the same experience with Element14 where they emailed me a voucher, I compiled a basket and then it said the voucher had expired. I triple checked the terms and it was well within the date and I was perfectly within terms. But they always put an 'offer may be withdrawn at any time without notice or reason' disclaimer in there somewhere.
Mouser have been ok, but they are quite slow with shipping from Singapore or USA to Oz. But my latest order has been a nightmare. I had a couple of lines that had 2 week ETA, which was fine. But one of the items has been delayed for 2 months now and they won't release the other line unless I agree to pay $24 per shipment to break consignment. So I have one line with an unknown ETA and another being held hostage 🙄
RS unit prices are way more expensive here compared to the other suppliers, and now they have put a minimum order value to get free shipping coz' "environmental reasons" apparently.
