Fakes, knock offs, and funny brands subs ... worth the investment?

hi ...

Recently been shopping online for other brands of subwoofers to try out including had recently bought the apple homepod unit and get impressive effects from it ... i thought it was time to get something wierd ... now lately can be seen rebadge ... fake ... funny brand subwoofers flooding the online markets with ridiculously cheap price ... i wonder if they really worth any of the money spend in the long run? (reliability issues and other ... high power continuos punishment duty pushed hard close to limit) ... subwoofer found locally in electronic store and car accesories shops locally frankly speaking werent cheap ... i am not joking

in fact i did bought a few of these sample replicas but they had double magnets and get pretty warm when pushed hard ... but the apple homepod woofer unit definitely impressive will restock it for sure ... yes it is obviously these were almost certainly made in china i plan to buy them in bulk and assemble them here DIY (obtain TS parameters first obviously) then sell to few friends and folks in my area here ...

so the point is to ask is the forum member opinion is how good they can run and last in the long run and how they will average out in the performance range? in the below par or above pars? if anyone have experience / came across / even build projects with same /similar driver units very welcome to share your opinions ... so i am asking for opinions now before a sweep a bulk of stock back from china ... thanks

there are few pictures /photos of mentioned fakes / funny / unknown brands / randoms

Most of them are wildly over rated junk.

Get good branded ones from places that scrap cars, or where people upgrade their car systems.
Most subs sit in car boots in their boxes, paint the box and put your name (why not?)

Then start playing with amps and active crossovers.

Loudspeaker driver quality cannot be assessed based on photographs. Some things cannot be assessed by a human eye (does the basket have a nasty resonance? are the shorting rings placed in the correct location to linearize inductance as a function of coil position?) or are invisible (almost everything inside the motor, magnet material grade). Then there is consistency: do you get what you ordered, with the same specs, even if you order it again next year? On top of that, drivers marketed to the DIY market often look prettier than well-performing OEM drivers. Think of cast baskets, aluminum cones and big rubber surrounds.

It is possible to buy high quality drivers directly in China from reputable sellers at a low price, but then you have to meet the minimum order quantity which can be 1000 pieces.

I think for the smart, experienced buyer the answer is most definitely yes. Accept the fact that China make the best electronic products in the world, they've invested and tooled for production; couple that with the west being furious over 'intellectual property theft', and the answer seems obvious.

Imagine: Apple market a thing called an "iWoofer" retailing a $600. The send the specs to a Chinese company and enter into a contract where the Chinese company manufacture 5,000,000 drive units for a buck-fifty each. At the end of the contract the Chinese company still has the specs and is tooled for production. They can continue manufacturing on the sly and retail the drivers at $25 a -piece. They'll never publish the detailed specs as that would offer proof that its the same driver.

Apple will turn a blind eye because self-build is not their market and, money involved is pocket change - and they're rakin' it in from the new "iWoofer 2".

Ignore the "knock-offs", anything with a logo or design that looks like a popular brand but you'll find a lot of Chinese manufacture for popular brands - the retail aspect of the company is a just a side hustle.

ok an update today ... one of the fake's already arrived today from china (6.5inches with 100mm width magnet rated 50w)

I've tested it into a box of around 40L and two 50mm ports tuned them into the low 40's Hz .... it doesn't sound really bad at all ... in fact quite impressive but when driven past over 100W there was some noticable harmonic distortion and the excursion bottoming out overload was very light ... unlike the apple homepod woofer which responded with loud crack ... bandpass is something next i will try out to see it will filter out the harmonic distortion when overload

i plan to try a few more out ... seems like they have the potential to further unleash their bass performance ... i test run them full range too they sound fairly well do
