isn't silk rather densely woven? sexy as it is, i think it might too high of thread count to be really transparent...
love this thread! I want to find a very transparent fabric which will still keep dust off. was thinking sheer silk(?) tights because its easier to purchase in the uk, altho I might ask the gf to buy them..

The problem with some of those silks, is that they have very little stretch. So it can be tough getting a tight fit. On a woofer cabinet you may find it flaps around a bit.
For most stretch Vs opacity, use the most sheer pantyhose you can find, though down low you may not be able to control 'drumming' without support, so might not work for single driver apps tuned low unless stretched over a very open wire mesh.

A good and easy rule of thumb:
put the fabric in front of your mouth an breath through it, if you can breath with NO perceived obstruction, it is suitable.
Exeption; the fabric shouldn't be too thick, i.e. a wool sweater will not work because it will absorb the highs, not blocking it.
