hi all,
I know i am asking a biased audience,
but I've been debating building either a KSA clone, or a F5 (probably turbo)
my speakers change fairly frequenly, but they are generally medium to lowish sensitivity 85-88 (real dB/1w) being able to driver 4 ohms well would be nice too.
has anyone compared these 2 designs?
what are the main differences in sound,
my guess is that bass grip will be better from Krell, but F5 would have smoother midrange.???
I think i'd be happy with either, but making the decision is hard.
i'd love to build both, but time and WAF limits that!

These two are very different designs but having in common that they're fully complementary designs using a push pull output.
Basically both (KSA50 vs. one of the F5 Turbos) should perform well with your typical low impedance speakers.
I would suggest to see it also from a practical standpoint; for the F5 variants the boards are easily available with lots of documentation.
For the KSA50 the situation is very different; from what I know there might be boards available, but remember the KSA50 is an old design, so a component update is in some form necessary. The quality of the update (e.g. reworking frequency compensation) depends then on the seller/developer of the boards and is certainly in a lot of cases simply unknown.
I did a full reworking of the original KSA50 for modern parts and it performs great, but as said it was more than simply plugging in modern parts.
Enjoy your adventure in amp land 😉
