My F4 is driving a pair of Quads in my small room, 12'x11' - 9' ceiling, concrete walls, floor and roof slab. Area oriental carpet and some wall acoustic treatment.
I use a Vandersteen W2 subwoofer so the Quads are not seeing a full signal - from 80 hz up which is the low and high pass xover freq. for this subwoofer.
Compared to my MM DeCapos with this same amp, the volume control in my preamp which is a high gain one -Supratek Chardonnay-has to be further up like at 3 o'clock versus 11 for the DeCapo 's, not a big deal. I guess that with a higher power amp I could be getting better sound but for now I'll continue to enjoy this combination which really attests to the capabilities of the F4. There is plenty of musical bass, which is well integrated, and the smooth, detailed, dynamic sound electrostatics produce.
A good friend gave me these pair of Quads recently as one tweeter panel had gone bad and in the last few years he had got tired of sending them for repair every few years. So he got new speakers. I ordered the tweeter panel from Kent in Electrostatic Solutions and replaced it today. A hell of work in dismantling the speaker in question and then putting it back together again. Well A British product, one would have to expect some complications like in an MG or Triumph. I hope this fix lasts...... Next time I'll fix the panel myself which I can see the diaphragm
tear now.
