Help

OK it worked. And then it didn't.:bawling:
When I first switched on it started playing music but at low volume levels as if the op-amps weren't working. Then suddenly it stopped playing as if a component had just failed. I checked the board and remembered that tant caps had a polarity. :smash: C1,2,4,7,8,28,29 were reveresed. I have now replaced them but I still have silence. Question is what component have I likely fried. I suspect it might be the DAC. Is their any way I can check before I start trying to replace it.

Just to let everyone know that is ocnsidering this project it is fairly simple, I successfully built one last month and it was my first soldering project ever. (I only messed up once on the 28SSOP chip) ... that being said here are some of my lessons learned!

1.) Magnifying class - get a decent one, maybe a jewelers loupe to inspect the chips once you solder them down.

2.) Youtube has some really good videos on techniques for the 28SSOP packages (the smaller chips)

3.) Get 2 boards and a little over twice the number of materials if this is your first time as you may mess up and want to start over. I ended up using my second board and started over once I got the hang of it. Either that of buy a couple cheap 28SSOP packages and practice on something. Its cheaper to add on one extra resitor at 50cents then a a separate order plus shipping (trust me I know)

4.) Get a good soldering iron. I use a Weller WP35 (35 Watt) with an ST2 tip. The tip size should be no larger that 1mm. I sued that hole tip without changing on everything!

5.) Get a good flux pen and 91% Isopropyl alcohol to clean the board.

6.) Make sure you check the pitch sizes of some of the components as they are incorrect on the BOM. Double check the part number and description when you order!

If I think of more Ill post!
