On a related note (and hardly new) I've recently fooled about with shorting / grounding metallic driver chassis. Sometimes done to the negative but if you're going to do it, don't go there; it needs to be through a dedicated separate leg to a proper ground or not at all. Does it do anything? Seems that way sometimes. Certainly nothing major, but not difficult to implement.
