Ilan, this is what some of the guys are already using (although a few different companies make them). Some are using a double ended bulb also. The price of the bulb is not bad (depending on where you live) it is similar in price to what I can get here locally at some of the larger hardware outlets. I can't comment on the color of light output, somebody with more knowledge about that subject will have to chime in 🙂 . However, on a set up that uses this style of bulb, the bulb itself is less than half the cost. In order to use that bulb you'll need a mogul base ceramic bulb holder and more importantly, a ballast that may run anywhere from $50 to $80 (USD). That being said, I think they put out a great amount of white light with lower temperatures than similar halogens.
400w bulb
Thanks alot for all the info.
Where I live, the main problem is the lcd panel.
I guess the total price (with the ballast) is still ok.
I'll keep researching, and I shall build one.
Again, thank you

No problem!
I'm in the same situation, Ilan. I can't seem to find the right direction to go on the lcd panel yet. I've put off buying the bulb and ballast until I can figure out the panel🙁 Good luck and let me know if you find something good!

You must be kidding me
You are in the US of A and you say you have a problem.
I stumbled upon at least 15 panels through the web, but they all seem to deliver in the US only.
Good luck

You are considering the same sort of bulb I intend to use, I have two pieces of advice....they get HOT!!!!! but that can be managed. The second piece of advice is to make sure you know what orientation the bulb runs in....some MUST be vertical while others are all postion. As for the base and related capacitors and such try going to building wreckers....these lighting systems are often used in factories and arent normally thrown away when a building gets torn down......just get there before the folks growing dope at home or you will loose out on a cheap high power light source to a pot head 😀
