External AC supply to Phono Preamps.

Indeed... that is a really good suggestion actually. I'm sure this is a prime reason for failure of a lot of small caps in equipment, typically in voltage doublers and such like that you often see in VFD's (vacuum fluorescent display).

Here is no resistor, then your 0.47 ohm and then two 2.2 ohms with one separating the caps. At the load current here the regulator still sees over 16.5 volts on the trough of the ripple.

Most low voltage phono & even preamps, can be feed with a DC power supply that is 3 to 5 volts higher than the stated input AC voltage. I have converted several over the last few years. If the circuit has +15/-15 input voltage just use one on these to connect

The feed the input with a suitable DC supply voltage, I often use an 18VDC battery drill power pack, hum problem should be gone.
