Hi guys n girls, I had a brief look on Google and here, but could only find info based on reverse mounted drivers, nothing really applicable to my Q.
I'm building a pair of MT130 cabs, of which i have come across many issues (first time building these cabs and they're custom as well...)
my driver doesn't fit in the rear chamber. It's an Eminence Delta12a and it's too deep.
So, in attempt to keep the rear chamber volume at least semi accurate, instead of building an allowance into the back panel, can I just make it so the magnet pokes through a hole with a seal around it? The magnet is vented, so being vented to outside is the only issue i see, but it does have a grille on it.
I will lose a lot of the low end that I chose these cabs for if i make the rear chamber any larger so any help will be greatly appreciated thanks.

here you can see the extend that the magnet would protrude. and yes, the baffle is in spec to the distance from the rear of the cab blueprints

I like that idea, if only because you get better cooling (The heat isn't all trapped inside the box).
thats definitely one positive from doing it that way, but i have a feeling i may need to seal it up fully to achieve the sealed rear chamber, i might lose compression through the voice coil gap..
Look my first reaction is that it should be quite okay. But I'd wait till one of the "Sub" guys kicks in. (It's not really my area.) The only comment would be that with hard surfaces so close to the driver there may be some reflections from inside the cabinet that would be stronger than usual, but given that it is a SUB that may not be a major concern.....
Good luck,
Jonathan
Good luck,

i feel like it will be ok. but i just wanted to check with everyone before i jump in and build something with even more compromise than what i started with.
klampy
what is your material thickness?
and do you really need the circle that the driver is mounted to? that would move the driver forward at which point doubling the thickness of the back and routering or jigsawing the inner panel to accommodate the magnet maybe?
i just hope the exposed magnet doesn't get sheared off when you start trucking your rig to a gig!

Turk, 15mm is the ply thickness. i decided to run them minus the back panel, purely for lack of time.
i will be putting a panel there, ill just cut an allowance for the magnet, and ill put a spacer in there and cap it off to cover it. but, id much prefer to rebuild them, and will likely build them as a double cab next time.
time will tell... ill see how they go tomorrow night. for now, heres a pic. theres a second sub on each side, just not pictured.
