Expert question for PsONE lcd users (with VGA mod...)

I spent an original PSone lcd but I will try again if the VGA mod increases native resolution of lcd panel.

I don' t have so much experience with lcd panels. My question is; Native resolution of psone lcd panel can be increased with VGA mod ?

I seen this picture and I am surprised, because of little fonts. I mean font size is very small but it is readable 😱

So VGA mod is increasing number of pyshical pixels / dots ?

And VGA mod is decreasing screen door effect at the same time ?

I mean after this mod, 320x240 pixel lcd panel is transforming to "pure / native " 720x576 pixel lcd panel...?

I don't meet the requirements.... But my 2c anyway.

No mod can change how many actual pixels the screen has.

I doubt it makes any difference as far as pixelation is concerned

The native resolution for the lcd is 720x576. The vga mod should just give you a cleaner image.

So its original / native resolution is 720x576 pixels, but default resolution is 320x240??

720x576 could be just for pal. Pal vs NTSC could be the answer to your original question. If the pal screen is 720x576 I would think the NTSC screen is 640x480. I cant see to verify what the ntsc screen. info link

Doughboy thanks for response but, because of my poor English, you took my question wrong...

Anyway, I know the pixel numbers of NTSC and PAL resolutions. My question was; is PSone lcd panel coming with decreased resolution ? So " default " 320x240 is fake resolution ? lol or it' s kinda like downclock 🙂

I did massive research ( I spent my sunday: ) about this mod ( on mp3carforums, diycommunity.de and all others..) and I achieved some projection results with this mod on diycommunity.de forums

I seen the guy has okay results ( he has even 640x480 test picture ) but I thought it was just simulated pixels. I mean there was obvious pixelation

My final impression is; Yes you are getting better picture quality and better font looking but the panel is just simulating that resolution IMO... The first picture that I have posted was looking really nice but now I am not sure... So I will delay it.

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

Well, there is certainly a difference between PAL & NTSC via VGA in the sense that it is much more easier to get it work if you have ntsc version of this display - I'm strugling with this difference ever since because you have to have certain type of video cards
if you don't want to undertake additional ttl circuits and staff.
(see starfox's updated website for both ati&nvidia cards)

In terms of picture quality, you have to take into account that
often these german fellows are employing additional mods which
will make the psone display a real marvel. So just search at this site these moders: Metalhuhn, Harald, Ich esse blumen, starfox
there are many documented tutorials how to mod it..
(always on mod, less reddish mod, brightness mod)

I'd say you can have:
In order of increasing quality

1/ AV-in picture of shitty quality (that might be the case of this screenshot)
2/ Scart picture of good quality
3/ Scart picture of good quality by using those additional mods
4/ Excelent picture via VGA
5/ The best possible picture via VGA by using those additional mods



btw. you can avoid harsh pixalation by a bit unfocusing the image
so it's not a big deal.. Also, I think that this particular screenshot doesnt make psone lcs proper justice because this jpg has been resized from another res. Moreover, in movies this pixelation disapperars and for desktop you can always tweak some font antialising features in the windoze
