I've tried wrapping those metal horns with rubber sheet, pads, electrical tape to dampen the "ring", it helps, but my ears just don't like them. They do ring, which might be a lot of what makes them sound so awful down in the 1.5K-3K octave. Up above that, maybe not so much? I should look at the impulse response to see. They never will be stellar, that's for sure. I've seen a few of the Heppners, but have owned only the Fosters.
I've always liked the smooth uncolored sound of those still popular phenolic-ring tweeters.
But that's me.
But that's me.
Ductseal.
P10 beat me to it. I recently applied a thick layer of it on the back of my QSC waveguides - not really problematic to start with - but the stuff is so cheap it's almost silly to pass. I think I can hear a difference... 😉 I can imagine it would be more obvious on metal horns.
