With USPS if they scan the item as delivered they are done, they won't process a claim. It doesn't matter if they scanned it delivered as they put it on a porch 3 streets away.I don't understand why people do not simply use the "local/national" maill services. They usually work fine and are A LOT cheaper than the crappy FedEx, UPS, DHL, etc.
I had video of the USPS driver carrying 1 box to our porch when they showed two as delivered; their argument was 'he probably put the other one in the locked mailbox at the street'. He did not and they never paid the claim.
We regularly get mail and packages for the neighbors from USPS and have had people bring them from a half mile away to us.
Only recently did I have a package show as delivered, but no, it was not. Sure, somebody could have taken it off my porch. Thing is that once it is shown as delivered, it is a done deal as far as the postal service is concerned. With their history being as it is in this neighborhood, you can bet that someone out there got a new crock pot that they didn't expect. If the track record wasn't so awful, I would think otherwise.
The local / national post office has the virtue of large volumes and staff with continuity and local knowledge. Some of the crappy ones above seems to be hiring people totally lacking ability to read a map and/or dial a phone number.I don't understand why people do not simply use the "local/national" maill services. "hiring people totally lacking ability" This is a general trend; not just USPS and FedEx. That's all they can find. People with ability don't want to work any more. I wonder why?
I remember not so long ago when it was hard for even people with an excellent work record and experience (like me) to get a job. "Overqualified" was the buzzword; then "your education was expired" ANYTHING to avoid hiring somebody they'd have to pay a decent salary. I remember not so long ago that having even one visible tattoo, or even worse a body piercing, meant you'd never get a job. Now workers at the store are inked and pierced like freaks, and often you can't tell if they are a man or a woman. When did this happen? Why did I work so hard to stay straight, when I was basically denied the right to work for the last 15 years because why? I'm a straight arrow white male with a college education and super clean cut. For what?

Low quality employees, who just don't care, ruin a lot of things. It is the age of indifference.
We had one of the slowest cashiers ever at a store the other day and she stopped to answer her phone in the middle of helping us. Dining out is another one that can be easily ruined by people that just don't care. The people working often don't even greet you when you walk up to the counter, you as the customer, has to greet them as they stare off into space. It is just everywhere.

That is completely different than here. I will encounter an occasional person that knows something and cares at the post office, but mostly it is apathy. They won't even help each other with problems. Once they make it through their probationary period they are very hard to fire and they are just putting in their time until they can collect retirement. The local / national post office has the virtue of large volumes and staff with continuity and local knowledge. I do. I ship around 150-200 packages by Canada Post per year. They used to be fantastic, but within the past few years I've found that deliveries, especially in Europe, takes forever. I've had several cases where the package arrived in the destination country but the recipient was never notified of it, so it was returned to me. I now only offer tracked shipping via Canada Post because the regular, un-tracked, airmail is simply too unreliable. With the tracking at least I can file a trouble ticket and get the package moving. The local mail services also offer the absolute slowest customs processing. Often the package spends a week/10 days in customs on both ends!I don't understand why people do not simply use the "local/national" maill services. They usually work fine and are A LOT cheaper than the crappy FedEx, UPS, DHL, etc.
FedEx/UPS, by contrast, handle the customs processing while the package is in transit. They track the package door-to-door. And they're pretty easy to deal with. I ship around 50-60 packages by UPS/FedEx, mostly UPS, and my experience has been positive. I also receive a few dozen orders from Mouser/Digikey/et al. yearly. They go by FedEx because they handle the customs processing vastly better than UPS. I can order from Digikey by 8PM and have my components 10.30AM by FedEx the next day. Which is especially impressive as Digikey's location in TRF is in the time zone ahead of me. Also impressive as the shipping is "free" with orders over $100.
For deliveries a lot depends on the driver in your area, though. I've had good luck so far.

I wish I had the nerve to get my wife a birthday present from Madisound!
FedEx is pretty bad (only DHL is worse), and I've asked Madisound to refund the FedEx shipping charges in the past when they **** up.

My friend driven by a greed just "bought " a Leica camera on Etsy. Of course for less than a half going price which was close to $2k (They are usually selling in $5k range ) Being a "smartass" he bought it on Paypal credit thinking that he will flip the camera for close to selling price and will turn around the money a few times before paying off Paypal.
Now the seller named Tarikh Akker (Tarik Hakker hehe) sent the package via Fedex and it was delivered. But it wasn't delivered to my friends address and it wasn't signed by him. Now my friend found that the picture used for the auction was stolen from another listing so he filed a claim with paypal. Paypal sided with Karih Akker because the parcel was delivered. My friend can't check the delivery address on Fedex site nor can the clerk at fedex office . Since only the sender can file the claim on missing package and report the loss it will be interesting to watch the resolution of the case.

Paypal is the worst. I got played for $700 my first and only time using it. Guy strung me along for 30 days or however long you have to file a complaint, then he reported me as no pay (I paid immediately when ordering) and never shipped.
It figures they sided with Mr. Hakker and his fraudulent practices. Credit cards with fraud protection is the only way to fly, especially nowadays. Don't want to process my credit card? You won't get my business. As soon as someone says paypal I'm out.

I didn't know any of that. I used it years ago when it was new.
I don't like messing with funny stuff like that. No sale for me.

For decades I've heard with UPS (and probably any other commercial shipper) you have to take them to court to get a claim paid. With USPS if they scan the item as delivered they are done, they won't process a claim. It doesn't matter if they scanned it delivered as they put it on a porch 3 streets away.

way back, 1990-ish, I shipped an active x-over COD via UPS. It was delivered but the collection was not made. Called UPS help line and got the run-around until someone conspiratorially gave me a non-800 number. I called it and a female voice answered declaring that is was "So-and-so's office." I immediately apologized and stated I must have dialed the wrong number. She apparently was used to this and asked me not to hang up and explain why I was calling. Relayed the issue and then she said it would be taken care of. 5 days later a UPS guy dropped off a bank cheque for the COD amount. The driver knew what the deal was, he stuck around to explain how shitty the system was for COD. All that was put on a COD package was a red tear-away tag. Many times, the tag would get ripped off in handling during transit so the driver wouldn't know to collect then would be held accountable in some fashion. Some things suck but glad things have progressed in other areas.
It certainly matters where you live. In some ways, it is a tossup where I live as to who will do best with packages either being sent or received.
As an aside, everyone will make mistake, it is how thay recover from the mistake that is important.

Most worse fedex experiences are when they deliver to Europe, it can be a total nightmare. They might just keep the packet for weeks without any reason and in any case, not deliver on time. Then sending a bill some months later which you have already paid and quietly refusing to correct it and still sending more bills for half a year until you threaten them with police action. Total scam company.
"Total scam company" I feel this way about virtually all major corporations. I remember the "social contract" that they eventually used to bend us over with no lube.... crooks the lot of them.
I shop at local food markets and mom and pop stores as much as possible. Screw B of A and their ilk- a bunch of thieves. They completely changed this once great country. Too bad for them there's still people that remember what this country used to be like.

I have always had good service from FedEx.

You're in Canada. On an island.
It's a different planet.... That introduces some shipping logistical discipline when you got to gather your packages and put them on a ferry for transport. You just can't have some semi truck go awry on some highway. You are indeed on Planet 10! 👽
My favorite FedEx story was when we were staying for a while in the Puget Sound area and I ordered some stuff from the North East US.
It was sent by truck and I tracked it all the way to Chicago and then I90. Until, somehow it got waylaid to a town right South from Canada in North Dakota and then it disappeared. GoNe, WoOsH!!.... repeated calls from me and the shipper revealed nothing. The best they could say is that it had crossed the border, but when? where? how? why? They had no clue. Le Package was lost somewhere on the Western Canuck Plains. Perhaps eaten by a Large Horned Moose or stashed away in a Mountie Fort waiting to be returned when Le Federation d'Etats employee came back on their monthly delivery.
Shipper arranged for refund and re-delivery. Then, out of the blue, announced, two -or three- Sundays later a Fed Ex truck dropped by with the package ( which by now I refused as I already had the replacement ). And it was lucky I was home, otherwise it would have called for me to drive it for a return to the local FedEx office.
