In case that wasn't clear, what I was saying is that I'm sure the Digitalview cables will work for the Spectrah boards. That way, nobody will have to worry about getting their own unique cable kit from Spectrah.
Great news
That's great news and you are right , it would take a lot of the logisitcal problems away.

That's excellent! Great news. These things are pretty cheap. They're user configuerable. And we have the pinouts so we don't have to get cables from them. Whenever you wanna do this let me know. I've got dough ready.
I was surprised by the price also 😉 I'm glad they are this cheap because I'm building a second projector for my dome this spring and want to use this so I can take advantage of my gamer card(hoping to build myself a BIG torus screen). I'll place an order after the weekend if we can work out all the details, anyone that wants one can order. I don't want to make any money on this, so the members that want one will pay per unit as quoted plus any taxes...shipping...import duties et cetera. Here's a tip though...we need to order as many as possible at one time...the shipping is KILLER! so many units will lighten the individual shipping charges from Taiwan.
Any suggestions for the handling of cash? I can't/won't place an order without cash in hand or on an account someplace secure. I also want to make sure the interested parties feel secure in giving up this cash, some sort of system whereby you can confirm that I have recieved your money and have proof of it.
Any ideas?

Do you have an ebay account? Here's what I suggest.
Setup an auction w/ the "buy it now" option on ebay for each person. AFTER, that person bids and pays you (I'd use paypal), you order it. Everyone will be well aware of the reality that you don't have them in your possesion at that time. If you don't know what shipping will be, overcharge, and refund the difference later (if you like).

I really hope I'm wrong about this, but I'm not so sure these boards are user configerable like I thought they were.
There are no jumpers to specify resolution, clock frequency, or bits per channel. The expensive board I was looking at (the DigitalView SV-1600) has a bunch of settings for that stuff on the board itself. The Spectrah boards don't seem to have it. It seems they come w/ factory bioses.
Originally, I saw that it could auto-configure itself based on the DVI source and prematurely thought that it took care of the output settings. But the DVI source has no idea what panel you have.
It's still a good idea if you know what panel you want it for, and you can order one, but I don't see how Zardoz can order a bunch of customized boards for different people.

You are right, ordering a bunch of different boards configured for the multitude of panels out there is not a do-able thing. Perhaps the sollution is to find a source for LCD's ie: 15 inch XGA screen's all the same...at least a panel that can be found easily enough...maybe a dell panel? or???? and we order all cards to reflect that...then we may as well order the cables also to match.
It looks as though there is some latitude in the panels, however there are built in limitations also. I haven't put the research into it yet that it deserves (been kinda busy) but it does look like a good controller.
Folk's if all you are doing is watching movies and surfing on a big screen go for the same card I purchased earlier...the LD-S270M, but get a better panel than my sharp...get an LVDS panel. The panel I have now is fine for movies, but could be a wee bit faster to make me happier. The caveat here is the requirement of a PC based home theatre, mine is built on a junk PCchips mother board all built on crap ie video modem....all the junk I don't want and can disable(except no built on LAN 🙁 ) It has an AMD K6 2 500 on it with 128 meg's of PC133 (need's another 128 to smooth out DVD play)
For TV, DVD's and surfing my present setup work's VERY nicely. With a better LCD it would ROCK! in these catagories. Gaming is limited to "turn" based games ie "Age of Empires" and such. This is because the most memory you can get on the PC based controllers is 8 megs 🙁 . "Flight Sim" I dont think would be very good..."Unreal" would suck. The 270 supports up to 1024x768 in LVDS mode (thats the size I keep my desktop with my 19 inch VGA monitor) I can only imagine what that would project like....my current LCD is limited to 800x600....open the throttle on the imagination machine and I can see a 1024x768 image in my theatre that will "BLOW AWAY" my current setup.
Lifter: Do you want to dig up "THE panel" ? The one we can find easily in any part of the country? I don't think it will be too hard of a job. I think maybe the "used panel" of choice will likely be a Dell (or another equally popular brand.....if there is one..Dell is just soo dam big I think they are ruling the world in laptop's)
The long and the short on this stuff is that we need to remember, we are DIYing...we hit walls...we climb over them and find more walls. Sooner or later we get tired of climbing walls, we find a wall we don't wish to climb and either sit and enjoy where we are at the moment or we get the heck out of the game.
Right now I'm sitting and enjoying....I originally wanted to use 400 watt metal halide lamps like in a warehouse...10,000 hour lamps. But the easy sollution for the moment is to go with a junk OHP and 75 hour lamps. This current setup won't last long anyhow...I have other plans for the controller card. Next step I find... a wall, Time to get the hook and rope out.. got some climbing to do.

I dunno. These keep popping up on ebay for pretty cheap:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2301528922&category=31569
I bought one and recieved it a few days ago. It's an IBM ITSX91. I can't find any infor on it either, but it had a single channel LVDS input, and it's SXGA. I've found info on the ITSX94, so I'm going to assume that the pinout is the same.

Thread is facing extinction.
There seem's to be little or no interest, 24 hours from this post I will withdraw my offer to act as go-between and will delete this thread.

Still interrested but not now.
Hi Zardoc,
I am still interrested in this possiblity but not at this stage. I am still awaiting delivery of my lcd panel with has a controller attached. Its has low contrast, and high response time so I will be looking at upgrading to something better. But I need to validate my design and then put some more money into the better setup.
I hope offer is still on the tabe at a later stage.
Cheers,

I'm still interested. I just don't know what to do. If you can get a Spectrah card that will drive my LCD, then I've got the money waiting.
I also am interested, if the offer is still out there. I picked up a Sharp 12.1 panel off Ebay last week, and am now looking to purchase a controller for it.
Hope you're still willing.

I'm sure he's willing, but it seems as if every card needs to be programmed by the factory to work for a specific panel. Hopefully other options will arise. Earth LCD is you best bet right now. Higher quality Digitalview controllers can also be bought in individual quantities from allamerican.com, but they're very expensive.

A thought on that... I was reading the spec sheet that zardoz posted. It mentions something along the lines of "If your panel is not XGA resolution, please contact Spectrah Customer Service Center to get a correct EDID ROM." This leads me to assume that the ROM chips are replaceable. I wonder if they sell the ROM chips a la carte?
Marsman
I would hate to see the cost of the BIOS chips, my experience with BIOS chips is that they typically cost FAR more than they are worth. And buying "chip by chip" would be a nightmare from Taiwan, multiple shipping/import charges etc...

I have to confess that I realized how much of a nightmare piecing it out would be right after I hit the "post" button. Thanks for making your offer, even if it didn't pan out.
Ah, well; back to the research. I really don't want to buy another whole panel off ebay, but it may be the cheapest route...

Other boards from spectrah.
Zardoz could you possibly get some more info on the ARV-300, ARV-350, DRV-200. Maybe these boards will provide us with a board that supports most of the panels that people would use.

I got a Sharp LQ121S1DG31 (man, they need shorter part #s). The specs and pinout are the same as the DG11, except it has a brightness of 300cd/m^2 versus 250. I wonder if the backlight inverter that came with it will handle a 1000W mh bulb?
Looking at the Spectrah cards, I think I would be interested in the ARV-410-SVGA.
