so the other day i opened up my Presonus Eureka mic pre, and immediately noticed on of the caps in the power supply was swollen or had vented. I run everything through it and lately it had seemed as though my recordings weren't as full and almost a bit distorted. I'm not sure if it was from the swollen cap or not but i proceeded to re-cap the whole pre.
I used Nichicon Muse BP for all the non-polar caps and Panasonic Fc's for the polar caps. And let me tell you, the sound is awsome! the caps prior to my recapping were called Chang. never heard of them. though there was 3 large Rubycons in the power supply section that i left alone. I dont know why presonus skimped on the lytics. If you own the Eureka you may as well up grade. 😀
My next project... Presonus Firepod. whoooo! thats gonna cost a few hundred $ to recap. Its full of Chang lytics. i did however recap one of the eight channels with Fc's. Each channel has 5 lytics at the input alone so you can see where its gonna get pricey.
anyways just thought i'd share with the diyaudio world.
oh yeah, the Eureka has two Ne5534 op amps in them. any replacements worth putting in it?
