Eton 8-412/C8/32: No One Likes This Woofer?

These are currently available from Madisound (I did not look for other sources).
I, too, was intrigued about the potential low 40's f3 in a sealed box.

I'm currently fiddling with the crossovers (to a Dynaudio D28/2) in a two-way system.
The Etons, to my ears, have a very clear and smooth characteristic. The system still needs dialing-in, but so far, so good.
I'm used to vented designs, typically larger, in pursuit of the bottom octave, so these are a bit of a departure for me.

Thanks for the alert. I'm now trying to land a used pair... The page suggests sealed cabs but the published FR chart doesn't seem to support 40s usage sealed, -12dB infinite volume. Please help me understand this. Also, XO low-pass info/experience appreciated.

Dunno but maybe Eton's graph is b.s. Then again, K&T's test of its brother 8-212 is in the ballpark
Thanks for the reply. High-Qts 8-412 and the similar 8-512 seem to fall off 1.25-1.5 times faster in dB than the low-Qts 8-212. I had thought it should be the other way around....

I used a local version of fiberglass honeycomb 4/5.25/8" drivers whose response sounded just like the published charts of Mivoc XAW or Eve Audio which all use the same membrane material by the look of it. My drivers though cheap were made for high-end speakers; I found they could only play bass in vented (tapered TL). So I always wondered if maybe Eton engineering could do more or better. One pair of 8-412 is available for a good price but the FR fall-off is concerning so I held back....

Help appreciated @djdevelop @cgraf @soundchaser

This is a nearfield plot taken at about 3mm I think. It is 3dB down at 47Hz (so not the low 40's but low enough for me).

My Q is a bit more than .707, I never computed it. In a bit bigger box the -3dB point might be a bit lower.

These drivers are kind of unobtainium now. Sealed box drivers are not as popular as they once were although there are still some suitable ones out there.

Thanks @soundchaser I found your speakers now, looks to be -30L? That's out-of-this-world good compared to Eton's response curve! "Clean... not particularly dynmic", meaning loud passages not very loud, or generally not the most articulate/dynamically-linear?

In the past avalon eclipse was using eton 8-470 woofer (this model might be OEM). And with very low 1khz crossover frequency to MB quart titanium tweeter.
In my opnion 8-470(472) is more close to 8-412 woofer (than 8-212) But not very easy to 2 way. Avalon did use reflex box.

I haven't been able to pull the trigger, after listening to a couple of videoclips on bilibili.com (China's youtube). Heard the bass (in a high-end-ish 3-way by the importer), but not midbass, so I need to investigate further.

By the way, the breakup resonance in my other honeycomb drivers were greatly reduced by applying automotive stretchy plast-tape.
