Esp P3

Hi!

This is a HOT subject!

I've made a ESP P3 amplifier for a small self powered speaker project.
Everything is ok, but the OPS transistors get very hot.
I say VERY HOT!!!
It's all correct and well assembled.
I can also fry some eggs in the heatsink.

Is this normal?
I also have some ESP P3A working, and they don't get hot (unless I push them to the limit).

Well, I'm sure you know that the size of the heatsink as well as the bias setting may influence the heat your o/p transistor have to endure.

Could you describe more this overheating amplifier?

Hi Pedro,
have you thought about that the amplifier probably oscillates at non audible frequencies?
you should attach an oscilloscope to see what the OPS-transistors really do.

ESP P3 and P3A are pretty similar. I agree, look for oscillation. Have you adjusted the bias current to the recommended value?
