Also tying in with the grounding subject, It is also a good idea to use a grounding wrist strap, and mat when disassembling electronics. The wrist strap will keep yourself from generating electrostatic charges which can damage electronic components. This phenomenon is known as ESD (Electro Static Discharge) can be seen and felt especially in drier climates. Just walking across carpet can generate voltages around 50,00 volts. Touch a circuit board containing any Integrated Circuits (IC's) and you can damage the circuit, or cause the circuit to fail prematurely. By grounding yourself, and your work, you can eliminate any damaging static discharges. Also, keep static-generating objects away from your work area, such as styrofoam, cellophane, paper, and plastic. You can disconnect yourself from ground once the circuit you are working on has been encased back it it's frame. One last important thing... DO NOT WORK ON POWERED-UP COMPONENTS WHILE BEING GROUNDED!! This is kinda obvious, but I figured i'd say it anyway. I posted this to try to help anyone from maybe destroying thier LCD panel by zapping it with ESD whild trying to take it apart. Good luck, and be careful and safe.
