Ian, any chance you will do a dac board using the AKM dacs like the AK4493 or AK4497? They can work with your transformer out board with a little tweak and a bit more musical sounding than the ESS dac.
I am also interested in AK449x dac, they are very musical sounding, and almost no dacs are out with this IC

As long as I have time😀.
Since we already have FifoPi, there will be no longer any problem to design all these kind of DAC(need MCLK) HATs for RPi.

Ian
Welcome.I want to start my adventure with RPi.I don`t have any DAC,i`m thinking about
ES9028Q2M.On Audiophonic site there are two version off that DAC
X20-DAC DAC Module I2S RCA ES9028Q2M 32bit 384kHz 1x AOP NJR MUSES 8920 - Audiophonics
AUDIOPHONICS I-Sabre DAC ES9028Q2M Raspberry Pi 3, 2, A+, B+ / SPDIF & I2S - Audiophonics
Is it worth to pay double price for Sabre?

Both are Sabre DACs.😀
If you're looking for a RaspPi HAT look here. Out of the box, this is an impressive sounding piece of kit. One of my favorites, and I've tried many of the DAC HATs. It's based on the 4490, so not the latest. But, sweet and smooth. Just a very rich and detailed presentation. SACD files offer a real sonic treat! I use with an analog PSU.I am also interested in AK449x dac, they are very musical sounding, and almost no dacs are out with this IC

YEN25,000 = AU$318 = EURO222 = £176 = US$226 plus the packaging, transport, customs & sales tax (on top) will push the price of this board well over the cost of a Katana kit... and this is before considering a comparison between the Terra-BerryDAC2 + and the Katana.
Ian,
in the manual it says filter selection only for es9038 only. Any reason it can't be done on the es9028?

it is also unclear (for me) if this board is actually required by the dac or it can play without it. could you please clarify this?
@ChuckT
ESS designed ES9028Q2M registers in the other way. It selects FIR and IIR separately. Please see the GUI manual ES9028Q2M only section for details.

@big bird
LifePO4 power supply has two isolated 13.2V outputs for analog sections. You can use them directly for I/V stage.

Hi Ian,
I searched your GBs but I couldnt find something about the DAC you have in the flickr photos.
Any links for how to get it? (or its not yet a final product?)
Thanks
@daemonsgr
I have two DAC HATs for RPi by now:
1. ES9038Q2M dual mono DAC HAT
2. ES9028Q2M DAC HAT
The user's manuals (draft) are all finished. But they are too big to post as diyAudio attachment. I'll post them to my GitHub in a couple of days.
Sorry about that.

Looking forward to checking them out!
Thnx for the quick reply
Hi Ian,Please find the attached ESS controller user's maunal (draft) in pdf.

Ian
the ESS controller work with external EES DAC, I'm glad! 😊
With this controller, could I change the external ESS DAC's inputs (optical, coax, I2S)?
Thx, Dee

I have read and I found only these: To enable S/PDIF receiving, PIN1 of jumper switch S2 needs to be switched to “ON”.
That's all or could you add something else?
THX! Dee
