ES9017/9027 DAC PCBs

You can buy what you like, there is a combinated pattern... E.g. Crystek CCHD-957 or 575. Or even external 3-pin.

I've produced a little flyer for a better summary.
Basically you need proper power supply(s), a digital I2S receiver, reference voltage regulators (2 pcs of LT3042 pcbs I can send you free of charge) and connectors, wires ect. to make it work. Micro-controller is up to you...

I'm not clear about how a hobbyist would use an I2S DAC. AFAIK, the digital output of consumer devices (bluetooth receiver, CD player, streamer) is S/PDIF. Would I need a S/PDIF / I2S converter to use with this DAC? And wouldn't that defeat the purpose of the I2S format?

For use IN a device that has either no DAC or when it has a mediocre DAC/output section. Why convert I2S to SPDIF to convert back from SPDIF to I2S again ?

The spdif input is available through a GPIO pin header. But I have the layout not optimised for that. But for more details I must check it if I will be at home. Do you want to design such a DAC? Only stereo (2ch)? What is your design goal?

I won't be designing anything. I asked because I was deciding whether or not I wanted to get in on this group buy. All my digital sources are S/PDIF, so I would be interested in a S/PDIF DAC. I'm still not sure about this one. It sounds overly expensive and complicated for my modest needs. I would be interested in something like the Subbu DAC. (Thank you, Jean-Paul for that. Mine still sounds great after constant use!)
