OK so i have an EP721 that i got from a friend for $50. Lamp was busted. I had one of those cheap zoombox like projectors before. Now the lamp on it was an MR16 35w 12volt. So i decided to use the MR16 socket from that and the bulb and solder it to housing of the Optoma and prayed it would work. It did! Awesome big screen on the uber cheap , But after about a week the bulb went out. So I got a 50watt bulb but then the projector wldn't strike it, just came on dim and and after a few seconds projector sends the bulb error code and just shuts off. Now I get a new 35watt MR16 and every thing is great and back up again enjoying movies and xbox but for only 2 days and it burnt out again! Figuring the projector is a 120v unit, I go and get a GU10 120v socket and 120v MR16 50 watt and it does not strike at all, just does the same, comes on dim, waits for the strike, and then out. It shuts off. Anyone have any ideas, the original is a 180w uhp lamp, but at $300 no thanks, the 35w was ok but to replace every few days doesnt make sense. Anyone got any clues what i gotta do? any way to trick this thing at all?
